Perfect Portable Premix Container

I just got my FD back on the road and its quickly apparent that I needed a good solution for carrying a couple of tanks worth of premix as I blocked off the OMP and am 100% premix dependent now.

The solution I came up with is R/C nitro fuel bottles. I had one of these years ago for an r/c truck so it came to mind.

Looks like 300cc's translates to roughly 10 oz so at 1/2 oz of premix per gallon that's good for 20 gallons.

These should seal up nice, clean up nice, seal of nicely with the stopper on the stem and the long stem should keep adding it to the tank a fairly spill free experience.

Just thought I'd share.

I can barely pour a quart oil bottle into the engine without spilling it all over. Idea here is to keep things clean.

What apex seals are you running camajo? 1/2oz a gallon isn't enough imo. 1 Oz a gallon is more recommended with no omp. The rc bottle works well tho.

I used to use nitro bottles... just beware, eventually the oil permeates it, and the little metal "straw"/spout will come loose when you turn it over or squeeze and it'll make a mess.

Based on my fuel gauge, I guesstimate 1/2 oz. per (working OMP) and use the quart bottle it comes in, which is kept in the driver's side bin.
But what the OP proposes would also work, and would allow bulk purchase of 2-cycle oil, especially if he's buying the really expensive "special" stuff.

Why not just use rotary aviation omp adapter instead of completely removing the omp and having to premix each fill up?

I always thought the argument was, that the oil injection nozzles didn't distribute oil overywhere that you'd ideally need it, so whether you use an engine oil OMP or a dedicated 2-stroke supply OMP, it's not the same as pre-mixed lube blown in with the fuel?

Packaging mostly. You have to find a tank and a place to put it. And you absolutely can't forget to refill.

I've done both ways. Premix in the tank and now I use the rotary aviation adapter. Forgetting to premix at a fill-up has the same effect as forgetting to fill the reservoir for the RA adapter. The difference being my reservoir will hold a little over a gallon of premix requiring a lot less fills -roughly every oil change- and a lot less guesstimating of ratios. If the engine accumulated over a hundred thousand miles on dino oil then a much better lubricating oil through the same system will have no issues.

Using the adapter makes you have to add an aux tank which some people do not have room for. Also the nozzles only apply oil down the middle of the rotor housing where premixing does not. I also buy Redline two stroke by the gallon so I am always looking for the best container that wont make a mess!

I'm using Idemitsu for now. The bottle says 1/2 oz per gallon. Does that assume I am still running the omp?

Interesting. I figured if it was rated for the nitro fuel then it would easily handle oil. Was it the screw on plastic top that became soft?

Well that, and the blue anodized tube (pictured in the Amazon link), is just pressed in, so if it's lubricated with oil, it can start to pop out pretty easily. I found that after a while, the plastic on the top got soft enough that the threads essentially "stripped" and couldn't be tightened much.

I use 2 Lucas fuel injector cleaner bottles. They are 5oz each, have a perfect size opening to fit past the flapper valve in the fill neck, and they are little sturdy bottles, i dont have to hold and pour either, just jam it in and wait or pay at pump. I use 10oz per fill at 1/4 tank on my truck, usually 36-40liters. If i am not empty and want to top up, i can put 1 bottle in and fill up to 20liters.
