Wow! Very slick. My OEM key is in good shape, but it's the only one I've got, so I was thinking of ordering a blank so I could make the original a spare key.

//edit: I ordered one Great find DamonB!

I got an awesome deal from someone selling a new key and cylinder set in our classifieds. I paid about a third of what they are worth.

My car has been "special" since I bought it. I got two keys with it. One key will open the passenger door, the storage bin and start the car. The other key will open the driver door and nothing else. Neither will open the trunk I guess somewhere along the line a poor copy got made or a cylinder(s) was replaced. It has been an irritant but not enough to cause me to replace them all and rekey once I found out the $$$.

Off the top of my head an entire new lockset (ignition, glovebox, storage bin, both doors, trunk and keys) is over $300 from Mazdaspeed Motorsports alone. Individual door cylinders are about $40 each I think it was but then I'd need to have them rekeyed as well. The ignition cylinder is an entire assembly with the cylinder, switch and column lock all permanently attached to an aluminum casting that requires removal of the column to install. It by itself was $140 from Mazda Motorsports IIRC. Parts over the counter from a dealer would be substantially more.

I recognize a good deal when I see one

*edit* key and lock cylinder set for the entire car is: FD02-09-010C-02. $255 from Mazda Motorsports, don't know about the dealer. This is the 1993 part number. Since the glovebox is different the part number will be different for other years I am sure.

The only key I want is the one Ming has.
And he promised to get me one when he was overseas and he never delivered.

He gave me the poor excuse that he couldn't find one

Thanks Damon,

Might have to pick one up. I like that better than the rotor ones.

$40 for a key...insane, but I guess it's what the market will bear for a time, at least. Three cheers for those with more money than they know what to do with (i.e. not me).

Somehow I think that car is long since gone, unless he got a spare insert and cut it to his new key...

I only paid $20 shipped. That's about the same as an efini key blank once shipped.
