Passenger side foot rest, design and suggestions

So i just started my school semester and I'm learning about the stamp processing. So i wanted to try a project using this technique. So my product of choice is the passenger side foot rest as i've yet to see them be produced.

So im in the initial stages of a prototype model. The following attachment is going to be the starting point of my "version" of the footrest.

Some ideas/modifications id like to make...
use thicker material with some weight to it. it feels rather thin and "cheap"
i would like to enlarge the holes slightly
and change the angle on the top slightly. reason being when bolting this on/off with the floor mats in place it makes it difficult to access the right bolt as it gets in the way.

now i would like to know any suggestions you guys have to better the footrest.

NOTE: this is NOT for sale. I am doing this as a learning process for class. If I do decided to produce these, i will have to go through the approval of moderators. so this is STRICTLY just a discussion about the design of the passenger side foot rest

Dimple the holes for rigidity.

Very interested in this though.

Id try and make it appear as OEM as possibly. Ive always liked the way the passenger rests looked on the RHD cars, and if there was one available and high quality I would gladly purchase it. Now for my (worthless ) opinions.
Yes, use a thicker gauge material to avoid a cheap aftermarket feel. Also use a quality material to begin with, either aluminum or a good SS. As for the holes themselves.. instead of just punching a hold, use the press dies that actuall put a concave lip on the edges for strength. (Cant remember what the process is called at this moment). Other than that, looking nice for just a start.

i think it is impossible to mimic the jdm one. from my observations the JDM one looks more rectangular. this is allowed because on the left side there isnt anything obstructing the floor. vs the right side the trans tunnel comes out a little. thus is why the "us version" has that angle on the side

thicker gauge is definately on the list of improvements as well. as far as concave lip? can u elaborate? you mean so there will be a lip on the inside (under the plate)?

"Dimple" is the correct term I was thinking of, as also suggested above. See here:
