Why did you buy an FD?

What have you been driving since you were 11 years old?

By the way, the thread title says "As a Parent, would you......"
Does this mean that you are a parent and would like to chime in our thread?

The main reason I directed this towards parents is because parents are usually out of the "personally i think you guys are all hateing that you couldn't get an fd at 16.......... Don't hate!" Mentality. We don't expect you to understand, and you probably won't, either

I'm not a parent. If I was a parent I wouldn't let my child drive the FD unless:

A) I was in the passenger seat
B) My child had more than 3 years driving experience
C) My child is mature, calm, collective driver

If my child didn't have one of those requirements I definately would NOT let my kids drive my car. Of course my opinion doesn't count (being i'm not a parent) but a opinion is a opinion.

p.s.- Alot of my younger friends drive older muscle cars with fully gutted motors pushing 400+. I wouldn't call them the best drivers but they haven't wrecked their cars yet . . . . most of them work on their cars so they have respect for them.

Well in the defense of my youngest friend Matt who owns a old Camero (I don't know what year, not into beef burners myself) has had it since he was 14 and is now 18. He hasn't wrecked it but has destroyed alot of parts drag racing. I think 10,000-12,000$ worth of parts. Granted 2 years of driving without wrecks doesn't make you king of the road but, it does say that he has respect for the amount of power he posseses.

p.s. That amount of money is everything total. Restoration included but mostly engine/drivetrain.

You are a moron, you know the FD is a fast car, everybody knows that. Why can't you just accept that un-experienced people (I.E.) young people and really fast cars = problems, some get lucky but a lot don't. And unless your previous "5" years of driving experience we from kart racing don't even try to defend yourself. I am 17 too and I will admit I do like fast cars but at least I am willing to admit that I am not a perfect driver by any means, racing school or no.

Most of the people in this thread ( who are against letting a 16 year old drive and FD) are either jealous that they couldn't get one when they were 16...In addition to this many of the people in this thread are saying 16 year olds are not able to appreciate the car, they're saying that 16year olds are using the car to pick up chicks...Through the last month or so i've seen a bunch of 40 year old me using the car as a tool to get with asian women..Now u tell me who is mature enough and appreciates the car more.. a 16 year old who has been studying the car for a couple years or 4o year old man who uses it to get girls...Most of the FD owners in here are in there mid 30's...just because u couldn't afford to get the car when you were 16 or didnt know how to "appreciate" your own car doesn't mean u have to bag on younger drivers...i doubt age has to do with anything...it is all about practice and self control....YES I KNOW I WAS VERY IGNORANT IN MY LAST POST

This thread is just further proof that regardless of who has managed to get an FD by whatever means, there should be an age limit of 21 for posting privileges in the 3rd gen. forum. The younger FD "owners" can have a separate Junior FD forum with a kiddy pool and sandbox...

or perhaps having to take an accumulative test of mechanical knowledge of the FD, and passing, prior to being aloud to post as opposed to and age limit

just like to take this opportunity to point out that most of the mid 30 to 40 yr old owners hear couldnt afford an FD when they was 16 because they didnt exist back then

And you've missed the idea of the thread completely, experience is the main factor, not love, not knowledge, experience

Really.. is this true?? WOW!!! I haven't picked up anyone with my car.. Maybe because I'm missing stickers, Veilside kit, some neons, chrome rims, or something..

Damn.. i would like to pick up some hot Asian chick.. Acturally I would settle for any race..black, white, anything inbetween..

The thing about 16yr olds vs old folks are that,.. As you get older, you have more responsiblities.. I do.. and I think other grandpas here on the forum will agree.. And since we have more things to worry.. when we take on "RX7" as a project or hobby.. Its more serious.. thats why those who are not serious and don't want to deal with the hassle and buy corvettes, vipers, M series BMW's, or other fancy newer cars.....

And at age 16 (stereotypically), you have few things to worry about (besides getting laid), very little experience in driving, and limited mechanical knowledge.. Don't get me wrong.. there is always an exception.. just as for us old folks..

Also, let me know what part of town I could take my 7 and pick up some hot asian chicks for hot sex (hopefully free???)

Maybe 18+.. If you could goto Middle east and kill someone, I say you are mature enough to drink and post..

Ok, I'm barely 15 and when I finally turn the ripe old age of 18 (legal driving age here in NYC), look for me in some FWD encobox or something. Maybe it's just me, but I think people should master a decently powered car before they step up. (Then again, I also agree that people should learn to ride a 50cc moped before getting a motorcycle) Also, take a skip barber or bondurant class.

The problem is that almost every 16 year old thinks they are the exception. It is nice to hear from a selective few who admit they are not ready for an FD yet. I believe that they will be the ones who will take care of the cars, and not wrap themselves around the local telephone pole.

i'm a high school student and i work 35-40 hours a week....it builds responsibility and time management, it also keeps me out of trouble. Just some input.

Look at the general behavior of the 18-20 year olds on this forum and I think you'll find that it's not much different in most cases than the younger members. I thought I was being generous by including the early 20s.

There were a reserch on how old is "mature" and the reserch concluded: Male 26, Female 23

6 pages later and still cracks me up how the 15-18yr olds think they're the exceptions

I think "Garageboy" is the only teenager on here i've seen get it right so far, at least he's learning early and willing to wait not demonstrating the infamous inpatience of a spoilt brat flinging there limbs about screaming "now now now but i want it NOW!"
