P/S switch on Power steering

Question... anyone ever had their P/S switch on the power steering pump go out.. and it make the gauge cluster go beserk? if i unplug the single wire from the switch and ground it directly to the body.. my gauge cluster works???
I've been looking at diagrams in the FSM and everything... i don't see why mazda would directly ground the cluster to the P/S pump... but who knows... also..
