Optima Shortage
What the hell finally decide to get an optima battery. Why because iv'e been lazy on recharging my current auto zone one. so i figure deep cycle is more suited for me. now it seems like they are all gone. all the local places say optima 51r is discontinued and they haven't had them for months now... ok guys anything comparable to optima 51r that fits in stock location that is around a $125 or less

I can't see the Optima 51R being discontinued - that's a Honda battery, and that's gotta be a hot seller.
Looking at a few Internet sales sites, they're saying out of stock, but more are expected. I think it's a VERY popular battery and production is behind. That battery fits pretty much all Hondas, think about it .

Yep, the 51R is still on the Optima website.
BTW: anyone know if the Optima Marine D31M would fit ?
I like having more reserve (acts like a giant capacitor), and it looks like the positive post is close enough to the edge like the 51R.
I also like having the extra studs/posts for auxiliary devices, etc.
Here are the D31M's dimensions: 12.813"(L) x 6.5" (W) x 9.375" (H)
The weight is the killer: 59.8 lbs, but I like the CCA (900-amps) and MCA (1125-amps)

Optima In Some Stores
I went through the same situation when I decided to change batteries. Called Optima and they were in the process of making more, but were just behind. I'm in the military and yes we did and do require a lot of them. I had the full size advance battery and they allow me to take it back and exchange it for the 51r titanium one and it's been working great plus it has a warranty, so if it does go bad I will be able to just take it back. The price was 75.00 and it has more cranking amps then the Optima. Let me know if you want pics. I got the Turbo Jeff battery box (looks and works great) and he ships pretty fast.

You don't need an Optima battery to run a 51R size. I ran a standard 51R for 3 yrs with no problems with starting, etc.
I have some 51R trays in stock ready for shipment if anyone needs one.
Thanks,
Jeff

Kraked how'd you get the orbital to fit? the connections right in the center of the battery.
any ways thanks guys I settled for red optima, heard bad stories but time frame does not allow me to get jeff kit and wait on 51r. oddyssey a little out of my price range so hope it works out for me. red optima can't be worse then regular auto zone right???
