You sound far too brilliant to own an RX-7. Maybe you should consider something more sophisticated.

For your own good, I suggest you consider something that doesn't require 60,000 mile engine replacements and the number of a rotary mechanic on your speed-dialer. If the price seems too good to be true, then there is a good chance something is wrong with the car. Many inexperienced 3rd gen owners sell their car when they find out that they need pricey new engine.

I agree with the others, if "body dressup" is a high priority, you need to purchase a different car. This car does not tolerate a casual attitude. You must be a dedicated enthusiast to put up the difficulties and idiosyncracies of the FD. Additionally, unless you are good with cars, you MUST live somewhat near a good FD mechanic or at least live in an area with a good FD community to help you out when you have problems.

In addition to Steve's site, check these out:

http://www.k-rad.com/3genfaq
http://rx7.voodoobox.net/infofaq/bguide3g/bguide3g.html

BTW, I'll never understand why people are so eager to muck up the FD with body kits and ****. The FD is one of the most beautiful and natural looking cars ever made. Go muck up a Honda or something else. Ok, rant over.

I think that it sounds like a food idea. I suggust the veil side body kit, or the wide body.

Newbies..

Seriously to tell you the truth do tons and tons of research on it before you make up your mind whether or not to buy it. And I don't mean go look at body kits for an hour. Take a look at the links that majik gave you and if you do buy the car and it's more than you bargained for don't say we didn't warn ya..

If you don't know much about them, get it checked out by a trusted rotary mechanic.... Don't know if there are any in KC?

Hey, we were all newbies at some point! I, too, am somwhat leery of your capacity to enjoy the car if body kits are your top priority, but you certainly wouldn't be the only FD owner with that orientation. The car does take a lot of "tolerance" for its idiosyncrasies and dilligent maintenance attention, but the payoff is worth it if you have what it takes. Read the buyers guide links that people have posted and weigh your desire against the attention it will take to keep it running right before you make a buying decision. These cars can be both wonderful and awful depending on your luck, desire, and tolerance levels. Some people buy them and love them, and others have a bad experience and sour on the car. They are money pits, but to some it is a favorable trade-off. If you aren't prepared to do some work on the car and put in the time to understand it, I think you would be happier with another car.

Your profile says you are 17 years old. I don't know of many people your age that could afford the maintenance on an FD.

I don't think age has to do with anything, I mean it make take him a while to up keep on the car but we don't know his financial stability now do we? I think his post was about something besides his age as well.

lots of us have had to replace our motors or turbos or trannys just shortly after getting into an FD. New motors are not cheap. Your choice, but my advice is to heed the warnings unless you've got cash, and lots of it.

So you're buying a car you know nothing about that has been "modified beyond all hell"? How do you know you have "more than enough money to keep up with maintenance"? Do you know what the maintenance costs are on a fairly stock car per year? The costs multiply when heavy mods are involved.

Nice attitude for someone who's new and is trying to get help. Other than DK's response, none of our posts were personal insults. They were the cold hard truth. This car is not easy to live with sometimes and takes committment.

I hope you won't need anymore help, because all of us nerdy ******** will be playing quake.

All right first and foremost. Almost everyone here has been giving you the absolute truth. If you take a few minutes and scan over the threads in this section you will see so many more threads about things going wrong and how do I fix them than yeah I just ran a 12. You are 17 is this correct? What type of job do you have and where are you getting your income. If you have money to keep up with the fd than please let us all in on what you are doing because I am pretty sure that you have no idea how much it costs to keep up these cars. You say you want to make this a drag car. Well first things first, if I were making a drag car I wouldn't trust anybody elses work. I would start from scratch. But if I did buy a modded car I would check out every mod they have and look to see what other companys make the same thing which is better more reliable so on. Secondly, if this car is for drag than why the hell would you be putting on more weight. Ie Body kit. You relize that a body kit really doesn't give you any better aero dynamics, and they are just excess weight on it all. I seriously recomend that you hold off. Wait until you actually understand the fd and then go buy one that isn't modded. That would be the best way to insure that your fd will go as far as it should on the stock or rebuilt motor.

I don't play quake anymore...

I was just being serious in my post. If you go to supraforums and talk about buying a heavily modded supra, you admit you don't understand what's done to the motor and then your concern is body kits what do you think they'd tell you?

Read about how much it costs to maintain a FD, any problems the year you are buying had, and then add alot more money for maintance because if you're dragging all the time you're going to be breaking stuff all the time.

And do a search for bodykits it's been brought up 500 times before and it would take a muliple page thread to show/list them all.

Hmm, I'm old enough to be your Grandfather (58 years young). Sounds like a typical 17 year old response. No offense to the mature 17 year olds out there.

Oh jeez another one...
In addition to the mentioned links you might want to read all the past threads from other young, arrogant and naive to see how you may be treated. If you read the links first and understand them you have a much better chance of being taken seriously and not getting in over your head.

What's quake?

I sense some kind of irony with this statement

I smile a bit with the recent slang fashion of "don't hate" and "feel the love". I was present in the 60's cultures of the same popular tangents. History repeats itself...

If this means that Disco is coming back I may find a shack in Alaska.

Ha Ha... Me too...

Quake is a computer game. I could explain Quake to you but I am sure someone who plays it often could explain it better.
