I mean damn, it's not like they couldn't add another warning light on the cluster for low 2cyl oil and add another page in the owners manual. I bet you could go months on that set-up. Rx8 owners have to check their oil levels far more often than we Fd guys did.
thats what i am doing...but bit smaller tank for premix

To tell you the truth, I have never figured it out yet.....but given enough time I will eventually!

Have not refilled it yet!!!!

IIRC its around 2.5 gallons, so yah there is a slight wait for the need to refill!

the one thing i neglected to do is put a visually meter on it just so i can always say "see oil" the sensor hasn't failed or stuck! just a loop of clear tubing would have sufficed, but i figured i check it every once in a while with a dip stick and it is slowly but surly going down. so she is taking her medicine as designed, so i am happy about that.

Here's one I made for another guy. It's mounted were the old vacuum tank used to reside. It came out to 1.6 litres in available volume.

Wow good job man, that is really nice!
I presume that the small opaque loop line is for a level meter correct?

Great work!

Does the aux tank screw top have to be removed to remove the engine oil filler? Looks a little close, but nothing a little slice with a bandsaw and a reweld with a tig wont fix!

Props man, good job, and its looks right at home.

Roughly how much time did you invest in those?

Also what is the hole through the bottom of the tank , I feel I should know, but I cant seem to think what it could be for?

how much would you charge for bit simpler design...

as i do not have power steering pump i would like the tank in that location

Yes, no, the oil filler cap can be unscrewed, A LOT in the design, building them is quite involved, lots of welding. Premix outlet to the OMP.

Yeah, I was thinking of having a GB setup towards the beginning of the year. Already have two I need to build as catch tanks. As far a simpler design, yes I have done that a can make it to customers spec. Example of AHarada's custom catch tank I made for him.

I look at the whole pre-mix vs. OMP battle like this: Premix or be ready to pull the engine to rebuild at an earlier date than necessary. Personally I'd rather be driving it and taking my time at the gas station answering stupid questions than see my 7 back on jackstands

but to each their own. Those custom tanks look great.

I did this and I had to use the stock OMP because my braided lines wouldn't work with the Mikuni OMP the way I have the lines routed, which I believe is in the stock way too haha. In the last pic where the lines are running right next to each other and attach to the OMP, on the Mikuni there isn't as much room for them to fit right next to each other like that, but I believe if I rerouted the lines it might work.

I got a tank from US Plastics, drilled a hole in the bottom rear of the tank and used ss braided line. I just mounted it where the battery would normally be.

Why you use a hi pressure stainless line on a gravity feed (zero pressure) area? Looks?

Partly looks but mostly because I figured it would hold up longer than clear plastic tubing or even rubber hose, due to the heat. My main concern when I got that line was if it was too big. Seems to be working fine though so far.

i have been looking around for some suitable tanks and found bunch of oil catch cans for around 20$ in bunch of different colors wit cap on top and drain plug on the bottom that can be used to feed OMP ...also you will be able to see oil level on the side ...would be most cost friendly way to go

it wouldn't be as good looking as custom tank but it would do the job

i my self probably go with custom tank or just premix in fuel tank as soon as i make up my mind

Does anyone know if the Rotary Aviation unit work on a 99 engine? I was told that their unit doesn't come with the right bolts for a '99 motor's threads, but that the shape is correct.
I have a '99 type RB (now single turbo) and am looking at this as an option.
Thanks!

And how/where have you guys placed/plumbed/installed your external tanks? I'd love to see some more inspiration for mine -- thanks!!
