OMG...its a crossroad

Heres the situation....the RX7 is my all time favorite car, not because it looks great, but the handling and everything about the car...recently I've been looking for a 3rd gen rx7 and I have found one. a Red Base Model RX7 with 69k on it and I think it has a rebuilt engine but idk who/or which company did the rebuild *more on this question later*, the price is 16K.

I know that the rx7 is a HIGH maintence car, and I know that the rotary *not all* do blow sometime in their life. I do know the downfalls of this car, because of the forum, I read it like the bible.

I live in Hawaii, Oahu to be exact and thats even a more downfall on me because there aren't any rotary specalists here. =( I know that I have to do most of the maintance myself and when somethings goes wrong, I have to try and fix it.

My friends are telling to not get the RX7, but they praise it, more than their cars. IDK what do to, either get this beautiful but stressful machine, OR get a 300zx even though the relabilty is practially the same as the rx7 or a 240sx. I;m going to TRY make this car into a Track car/drift/auto-x...not a drag car

I will not make this my daily driver, and I will take it to the tracks...so...with all that said...should I or should I not buy this car. I know you guys are probably gonna say "its what YOU want, no one can make the decision for you" But I need this advice....BTW I'm not POOR....nor am I filthy RICH...Should the maintance put a deep hole in my pocket? and since there are no rotary specalists should I not get it at all? ADVICE PLEASE!

What year is the FD and are there any mods? 16k is a lot of money for a red '93 base with possibly the original motor.

I guess you are right. How much is it to get a car shipped to Hawaii from the mainland?

There's a rotary expert on Kona by the name of Dave aka "BigIslandSevens". Give him a holler.

if your gonna drift it at hrp, dont get a fd!!! you will put it in to a wall/tires if your luck and/or flip it if your not... hrp is too damn narrow to drift a fd in, espeically if your a newbie. even the best guys i know put their cars in to the tires, especially in the sweeper. i say buy a 240. it will handle much better for drift and it cost a lot less! that or a fc and have fun with that. I personnaly have both and enjoy my fc a lot more to tell you the truth becuase i dont have to worry about it. sure a FD can do 150+mph without a problem but you know that you cant in hawaii unless you wanna goto jail for 30 days for reckless driving (you know how many cops there are here and they are gonna catch your *** on H-3 or on the viaduct if you try, i mean were on a fken Island haha and there are wayyyy too many camaras). If you lived on the mainland and had lots of track space so that you can go in to a turn at like 90+mph and just yank the steering wheel, go out of control and not hit anything or if there were more open parking lots to practice sliding around in then i would say sure, fd is good but if your using tantlus and HRP... i would really think twice. Just remember, insurance wont cover crashs at a track. then again you can ***** out and drag it across the street and say you either crashed it there or someone stole it and crashed it but that would be fraud...

in the end, if you gotta ask if you should buy a car or not (and for only 16k), you probally shouldn't. especially if its a track/drift/autoX only car. you probally cant afford the repairs/rebuilds/mods (relibility, safty, as well as power upgrades)/insurance and perhaps gas (race gas or even pump haha, even at costco the gas is wayyyyy over prices compared to the mainland!) for that kinda car.

P.S. check out hypersports fd to see how well fd's are at drift haha you dont see it winning every driftsession/event do you??? sure it got in to a few mags and got in to a few shows but thats all about its good for... and they spent mega bucks compared to how much your willing to spend and have a full shop which you won't beable to use and built that car specifically for drift... (then again, i dont know you or what shop/tools you have access to)
