Oil pressure question.

I bought an Fd yesterday, it's 94 Touring, montego blue. Everything looks ok, engine runs fine and stuff, i haven't had time yet to hook up a boost gauge and check for boost patern.

I'm wondering about oil pressure. How often does that oil pressure sending unit go bad? It shows little above zero when it's idling, and i know it shouldn't do that, it should at least be on the first line.

by the way it has original 62k miles.
Please reply.

my 94 fd touring does the same thing, 55k miles. When I first cold start it, the gauge seems to work but after warming it up some it gradually drops then like gets stuck and drops more. Even at higher rpms after warmup my gauge only moves a little.

It actually seems to work better in wet weather too heh. :P

Don't worry. You can clean the connecter and that might help but they all act up.

when i have my car at WOT, is it normal for the stock oil pressure gauge to go up to just under 120? Like 100-110? At around 4k RPM it goes to like 60, at wide open throttle it goes to around 100

some oil sending units are good and others are bad, my brothers fd has 60k on it and the oil sending unit has never worked right, yet on mines which has over 70k, it works perfectly. You can always buy an aftermarket one if you wanted, thats what i would do.

Same car, same issue.....

94 Montego Blue, 68 K miles, and same exact symptoms. Took the connector off, cleaned it, sprayed it, symptoms barely improved, either replace it or don't worry.

So far I'm doing the no worry thing.

Autometer sender

Would an Autometer sending unit work with the stock gauge? I want to install an Autometer gauge and I would like to use the sender included with it. If I run both gauges to the sender will they both work? Is the ECU tied to the pressure sender at all? If I put in the Autometer sender this will not make the ECU angry will it?

You have to tap for an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and it won't effect the ecu at all. As far as the Autometer sending unit with stock gauge, I'm sure you could make it work but I don't know what would be involved in doing it. Autometer sucks anyway.
