I get very little droning with the Racing Beat and a midpipe with a Magnaflow muffler welded in (rx7store res mp). In fact, in some driving situations, this setup is quieter than my hi-flow cat was.

I'll agree, my PFS and pettit resonated MP, DP is perfectly livabe to me.
To clarify though, i'm not sure what "droning" really means to people. If it just means that the exhaust noise will get on your nerves after 3-4 hours on the highway, that's just the deal. Most aftermarket exhausts on most cars would.
If you're talking specifically about a harmonic resonance at a certain RPM that's fifferent from the rest of the rev range, that's a little different, and will be a result of the exact combo on your car and how it works together. My friends Miata w/ a borla has that, and it's irritating. My dad's Miata with the more expensive Jackson racing exhaust doesn't.

I don't know if the jury is in yet on those metalic cats, but if you get a good quality high-flo cat (like a bonez or something), ditch whatever extra resonator you have on there, run a regular DP, and whatever catback you like, you'll probably be fine.
