No Heat

No Heat
I've searched and searched and only found threads on people not knowing the dash vents are designed not to blow much/any heat and people with block weld in their heater cores.
My HVAC temp **** simply does not work.
(Story)
I've never had much in the way of heat in the car since I bought it and never knew why until last winter. I had no heat and I sat in the garage with the car off but in the on position and noticed the little noises associated with all the HVAC controls besides my temp ****... I messed with it for a while, finally heard a noise, and I had pretty decent heat after that. Then summer came around and I messed with it and got it back off again for the summer. Now I got nothing... No noise, no heat I froze my *** off twice frantically trying to get the **** to do something with the car fully warmed up and I don't want to have to lose out on the nice (non snowy/rainy) winter days until next summer because I can't get my heat to work...
(/Story)
What does the **** actuate?
Is there a connector I can jumper/test?
Is there something I can move mechanically?
Is there a fix for this?
At this point I don't care how inconvenient it is to do I just want to be able to have heat in the winter and no heat in the summer.
Thanks,
-Kurt

The anchor (a screw IIRC) for the mechanism can come loose and cause you to not be able to adjust. Pull the **** off (I don't remember if it just pulls off or has a locking set-screw) so you can see the fastener behind it, and it will be obvious what you need to do.
