Well I'll be damned. I just read through the owner's manual, and they recommend the floor setting. I had no idea! That might explain why my heat seems to work so lame . I'll have to try that.
Thanks!

News to me. I've owned two 93's for the last 8 years, and both blew thermonuclear heat from the center dash vents, and it gets pretty cold here. its actually one of the better "regular car" features.

I've only got a '93 manual, and it documents it -
Heating -
1. Set the function selector at floor position
...
If cooler air is desired at face level, set the function selector at the (floor/face) position and adjust the temperature control to maintain maximum comfort.
The air to the floor is warmer than the air to the face (except when the temperature control is set at the extreme right or left position).
Go figure. Tried it just now, and the car did get warmer more quickly, but the day is warming up to where I don't need the heater. I'll play with it again tomorrow morning when the car is ice cold.
This morning, the heat didn't get warm enough until I was JUST about to work (a 15 minute drive). That was with keeping the revs between 3 and 4000 RPM and easing into boost every now and again, trying to get the temp hot. I did have it on the face position, though.

Well I have a 94 Touring, and I have the same experience. If I have the heat on high and have it on Face/Floor- it's less hot than if I have it just floor, or just face or vent.
I just shrugged it off, since my FD is getting its Hibernation in the wintertime I suppose it doesn't matter that much.
And yes, thermonuclear heat eventually comes out, but putting it on BOTH face/floor always makes the air less hot either way.

There was discussion about this last year at the same time about warm/hot air causing people to fall asleep faster behind the wheel at night at what not. the warm air soothes your face and you get all super comfortable that was just said last year though i wonder if someone will come up with a better exlplanation this year.

wait wait... does this mean if you set you blower to full blast in the defogger or floor position all the way hot, it will give a better cooling eficiency than doing it with the face position? I never knew it blew hotter air in defogger and floor position. I just thought my heatercore was a little clogged or something. Well it probably is, but I'm gonna try this right away when I get my car back.
