I've never done anything under peer pressure or because im afraid i'll look stupid or get laughed at. Who cares if they laugh, we all know the FD could kick their ***. Its a real man when they have the guts to say no.:pI have had good judgement all of my life and believe I'll still have it. I admit there would be an urge, but i'm a smart kid for my age. If I want to prove myself, I'll do it at the right place and time: at the strip or the track.

Don't get us "crusty" 30+ old guys wrong, we're not bagging on you newer drivers and we LOVE the car as much as you and want to help all rotary-heads.

A now-affordable used $15k PURE sports car that can stomp on most cars including Vettes, LS1's and earlier Porsches is not for everyone. And there's a reason insurance rates are astronomical for the car and similar to sportbikes. Look at it this way, Mazda non-executive employees were forbidden to lease or demo any FD in 93-95 because they were getting cracked up into curbs and totalled otherwise.
If you're heart is set on an FD, take a driving school course like Skip Barber.

I am planning on going to Bonduraunt, one of the nations top driving schools, so i could learn to handle the car. Anyways I can't get the car until I get enough cash, which means I'll proly have quite a bit of time to get some good experience in my 240.

Its my friend that I would be worried about. His pop gave him a 95 touring for his 16th b-day and has really no idea of the capabilities of the car.

Nice 'play' setup TpCpLyou aYa. Heheh. Yea I totally agree with you and all and let me add about bajaman. Dude (I mean Sir), the way you explained that was way better than my dad ever could . Did a great job to be quite honest. You opened my eyes... <---- =/ a tad bit bigger than these.... I am currently a freshman at San Diego University and what really sucks was that the FD is on my mind 24/7, but all I can promise to myself is that I will try my best to excell academically and know that my future is at stake in the process. Thank you again bajaman...it's people like you that should be a teacher, because you do an excellent job reaching out to the very few of us to take the time to listen .

EDIT: After reading my own post I sound like an overeducated prepuberisant (<--- I think I spelled that wrong ) teenager. So with that lemme add that I checked (no comment) and yes I'm still 18 years old . LAterz ya'll...I'm checkign out and hitting the sack...it's almost 5am here in Newport Beach. Peace.

I remember...really I do!

The deal is guys....I was THERE just like you, at that age! I know what it is like to be CONSUMED with the desire for a car......mine was a Jaguar XKE....I had lived and breathed Jags ever since I was very little, had every book I could lay my hands on about them....and I had this opportunity to purchase, when I was 17, a beautiful 1973 XKE Series III, V-12, four speed, factory chrome wire wheels....it was THE CAR of my dreams.....I did EVERYTHING to try and get that car. I was only 17 at the time, this was 1977, and I had only been working at my current job a few months. And the car was owned by an older Swedish guy, he was a vice-president for the Coleman Co. And I had been searching, making connections at all the foreign car places in town, handing out my name on little business cards, for any, ANY info on who might have a Jag for sale (you see, in '77 Jag XKEs were like FDs today...they had ceased production in '74) and the prices were going thru the roof, some models even THEN were bringing $40K-$60K...Anyway, this Swedish guy (Olie) found out about me, he contacted me, freaking INTERVIEWED me is more like it, and then told me that to the right person, he would sell his car. But only to one that knew about the car, that would respect it, etc. And after he was satisfied with me, we took the car out for a night of driving. I will ALWAYS remember that, always.....
And at the end of the whole deal, came the kicker: He would sell me the car for......ten thousand dollars......
I did everything short of criminal activity to try and raise that money. I begged my dad, who would have nothing of it. I went to 22 banks, I was too young without a co-signer. I went to my freaking BOSS for God's sake...he too said no.
It was the best thing that could have happened. I WOULD have killed myself or others in that car. And the Jag is just like the FD, very tempermental, very expensive to fix. The first major thing that broke on it would have put it in the garage for months. Simply put, that was NOT the car for me, at the time. Oh, I was bitter, pissed about the whole deal at the time. But looking back, I know it was best.

Just wanted to let you guys know I KNOW what it is like, and I don't blame anyone one bit for lusting after an FD. But like so many things, there is a right time for it.

My Jaguar was a ratty 66 4.2L E-type Coupe, I bought it in 74 when I was just a year out of HS (though I had been driving for over 3 years) and had to BEG my parents to help Me raise the $1,750 price. In the 2 years I owned it it stranded me three times! I spun it, unintentionally, turning into a wet parking lot and was lucky to not hurt myself, anyone else, or the car - after that I took it to a large (& at the time totally empty) open parking lot and practiced recovering from slides and spins and learned what the car felt like near, at, and beyond the limit. A limit I must add that was much LOWER than the FD!

To 2a+RoN:
Sounds like you are very mature for your age and have a good understanding of the responsibility that goes with owning a Very High Performance Car - Please try and pass some of that on to your 16yr old buddy w/ the FD.
