New Type R Bathurst RX-7

Read about it here

Retail price of 3,398,000Yen or ~$27k US. Personally, I preferred the Type R Bathurst R in yellow with the carbon fiber trim.

More info on the Japan RX-7 site here

I think it's really weak that they we can't get any action in the states. Even if I got one imported it would still be right hand drive.

how the hell can that car be only 27k when the fd models were in the low 30s. keep in mind i'm not only talking about a better, newer car but i would think just with inflation the price would have risen closer to 40k. o well for 30k if they sold that car here i wouldn't even think about it i'd buy it. talk about dominating the 30k class

i think the exchange rate is very favorable right now for the US. japan has been in recession for 10 years.

Japan has been experiencing deflation over the years. I don't even know how long they're central bank has been at 0% for. For reference, in '95 you could get 85 Yen on the dollar whereas now you could get 126 Yen on the dollar. BTW, that Bathurst is more of a mid-range model. You could save thousands by getting the base FD model they offer in the Japanese market.

why even think about driving it in the USA, when there is like no possible way to import it. And if you import it, the price would be so much more because of the so-called crash testing... Even though its just like the 93-95 RX-7 with few changes that wouldn't effect crash testing. BTW, whats wrong with Japan's crashing testing of the new RX-7?

Man... They have had the RZ, Bathurst, and now the Bathurst Type R. If they come out with another limited edition model I will have to go to Mazda and bug the hell out of them until they make a LHD version and bring it over for me.. Hee hee

Despite the rave reviews in car magazines, the RX-7's were not moving out the door of the dealership. The reason: Too impractical.

They keep coming out with different models so it can be a bit confusing. The RZ has generally been a regular model option and first started in '92. The white '99 RZ was a special LE model(just 175 made) The Type R has pretty much always been an option and after the white RZ, the Bathurst R LE model was done(based off the Type R hence the Type R Bathurst R designation). Just 500 Bathurst R's were supposedly made. Now, just a regular 'Bathurst' model is being offered for sale(no production numbers listed anywhere that I can find)
