New RX7 owner here :)
Hi everyone, just introducing myself here for now, though I'm sure I'll have lots of questions to ask later! I just picked up a mint 1995 RX7 that shows 34,515 miles on the clock It's been garaged since new, and the lady told me that it still has the factory Dunlop tires on it. The paint is yellow and it's in pretty good shape except for a few dings here and there. The only thing is that the motor is blown & removed, along with the tranny. I got the car really cheap.. Apparently the woman's husband died some years back and the car was never fixed, and it had just sat in her garage since 1998 I think until I trailered it over to my house. I wasn't even going to buy it at first, but my friend told me RX7's have a pretty good resale value.
Anyway, I don't really care too much for the car, but the interior is in nice shape. I still have to go back and get the transmission and engine. Speaking of which, after some research and poking around on the net, I found that I can fit in my carburated 351 small block that I built a few years ago. It's just been sitting in my garage and now it's conveniently sitting next to the RX7 After a little bit of searching it appears I may have problems with hood clearance, but I don't think I would have any problem with cutting a hole in the hood.. no big deal though, the car will basically be a budget buildup anyway so I can keep my Mustang off of the road.

you are going to put a piston engine inside an RX7.. I'm not religious but i do believe that if there is a god he may very well strike you dead of something horrible like a ruptured colon or a horrible toothpick accident if you do that...

Actually he's interested in putting together something with the parts he has available at a good price. Sicne he cares nothing of the car you can bet it will be a butchered up POS before it's ever running piston or rotary powered. These conversions done right are costly and time concumming. Perhaps he'll see he doesn't have time for the project and pass the good deal with a proffit on to someone who would enjoy it. I guees he's not so much and Rx7 owner as he is someone in posession of an Rx7.

no ****, this sounds like a car that deserves an owner that will respect the Rotary Experiment 7, not turn it into a mutated piece of junk, they are right, ask JimLab and them about how in-depth of an operation putting an american **** block in really is. Please spare the car to someone else that can save it. PLEASE.

If you don't really like the car and you only bought with resale in mind, I would strongly suggest that you fix original motor and put it all back together and sell. There is only 500 of those 95's floating around. If you bugger it with another motor you will probably never get what you paid for it let alone the money you will sink into it. Go find something that you "like" to put your motor in, and in the mean time find a used rx-7 for sale and take it for a test drive, you might think differently after that. Just my 2cents.

Jeez, I didn't know it'd be such a big deal. I got the car for $1,500 and I still have to go back and put up the engine/transmission and some other misc parts. I already pulled some stuff to make room for the 351. Why did these cars have two oil coolers? I don't know much about rotaries and yes, since I already have the engine, I'll put it in the car. As far as budget goes, if it has to wait for more money to come along then I will wait and do the job right. I don't mean to come off as being a cheapass or anything, just trying to save a little $.

You really should throw a reman in there and clean it up and sell it for more money. Then you could do what you want with the money. It sounds like you could easily make some money off of it. I know you aren't good with the rotary, imagine what your "hybrid" will be, reliable? working? how much money will you throw down the intake? We just all want to see our cars live a good prosperous life, not get the hood cut out!! You just stirred up all of our worst fears for this car, they are extremely rare at this point, just doesn't make any sense. Like they said you can have sex with your sis, doesn't make it right!!! Good luck, see you on monster garage.
