new Greddy intercooler and why its so cheap
I just spoke to my friend who works at Greddy and the reason the new M-Spec FMIC is going for such a great price is because its being outsourced to Taiwan.
Thats right not made in Japan.
He said the performance falls some where between the V-Spec and R-Spec FMICs.
I'm not by any means trying to discourage anyone from buying the new Greddy FMIC in fact I'm going to purchase one myself. just thought people would like to know.

Help me understand this...greddy gets their IC from taiwan now and they should be good since it carries the Greddy name but XS power gets their IC's from taiwan also but does not carry the greddy name but that IC is crap...hmmmmmmmm..
It would be funny to me if they all used the same core....

I thought the XS Power ICs were made in China? There is a big difference between Taiwan and China in terms of quality at the moment (though I am sure this will change). I have bought quite a few tools made in Taiwan over the past few years and pretty much all have been of very high quality; I have never bought any Chinese tool that was not total crap.

I don't know if greddy uses the same core as XS power, but there has to be more than one factory that makes intercooler core in Taiwan. If the quality control is good on greddy's part, it wouldn't matter where it is made.

i dont think it matters to most people where its made and i make this comment because the general age of FD owners is dropping quite rapidly, that being said most of these people will be happy to get a front mount for 500 bucks made by greddy. i mean hell, look how many forum members were stoked on the xspower intercoolers. i have seen a few in person and just by looking at them i would not put them on my car. but to each his own, im sure this greddy i/c will have a great bang for the buck ratio. just my opinion of course.

Have you been to Taiwan? Not as bad as China or certain 3rd world countries

Taiwan is hardly a third world nation and is pretty advanced in the tech industry. While not on par with Japan, it's still far more advanced than many Asian countries at this point. Drawing a comparison between Taiwan and China just shows ignorance.
That said, I'm pretty satisfied with my intercooler.

You need to be very exact on your specifications. BTW, higher quality will cost more, but usually less than in the west or Japan.

Kai, my $0.02 is that the R&D done by a large manufacturer like Greddy will be considerably more than that of an Ebay company like XS. So I think it's a matter of them being able to produce their product at a lower cost, and thus offer it to the customer for a lower price.
Having said that, I think that many a time, the cheaper labor DOES result in poorer quality control standards and poorer final quality/finish products, although the initial high level of R&D is still there. So it's a tradeoff.
Bottom line is and always will be that you get what you pay for. End of story.

How much are these selling for?

EDIT: Nevermind I see it goes for just under $500 but you need the greddy elbow to runt he kit. I guess that would be an easy fix if you don't have the greddy elbow though.

Is the M-Spec worth it if you don't have a single turbo or other turbo upgrade and are going to be running 12-13 psi with all bolt-ons(including 1300cc injectors) and a Power FC, the M-Spec would be on my car for a year and I would probably sell it when I upgrade it again or should I just get a V-spec or R-Spec now since I will be going to a single turbo Spring 2008?
