new clutch, ceramic or organic?
Hi all, looking to buy a new clutch for the FD mid next week.
Iv got it narrowed it down to two choices that are reasonably priced and available locally..
Option 1 is a exedy "sports tuff" heavy duty pressure plate and "organic" clutch plate
Option 2 is a exedy "sports tuff" heavy duty pressure plate and "5-puck ceremic button clutch plate"
This will be for a non daily driven, lightly modified, road going FD.
What do you guys think will be the better clutch option for me?
Im leaning towards the ceramic clutch as its only about $50 usd more then the organic clutch..

thanks for the info, im not really considering the the 5 puck anymore.
However I have found another kit locally that uses a heavy duty pressure plate and a "carbon/kevlar" full face disk.
Would this be a good compromise between the organic and 5 puck clutch in terms of handling abuse and driveability? I have been researching these carbon/kevlar disks and am having trouble finding any difinitive info on them.
Some say they are better then the organic and have similar driveability, others have said it can slip easy when driven lightly then may need to be thrashed to get its grip back? any comments?

Depends on your setup, if you have a aluminum flywheel and use the non-organic clutch, I think it may prematurely wear down the flywheel? May not be a problem for the stock 23 lb flywheel
The heavy duty setup may also require modification to strengthen the clutch forks as there are reports of the clutch fork breaking. I think there is a thread showing how to tack weld square rods to beef it up.

I'd go with an organic street ACT kit at those power levels/mods. Works Concepts has a sale on them right now here on the forum, PM them for the price. I just bought a flywheel from them too (on sale as well).
If you're looking at going high hp you can't beat the Exedy twin ceremetallic, but it costs a pretty good chunk of change. Very very streetable clutch as well.

Thanks for the info guys. I went with the exedy sportstuff kit with HD pressure plate and organic disk.
Got a pretty good price on it locally - the kit should arrive tomorrow.
Hopefully ill have it done this weekend - although its unlikley as ill need to get my flywheel machined...unless i can somehow have the flywheel off before the weekend...hmmmm
