Question New 1993 Touring & WTD: PN#s for all check-valves/actuators

I just purchased 1993 Touring in red (93K miles) with a boost pattern of 10-8-5, along with a big "whoosing" sound during acceleration only.

BTW: Everything is STOCK.

I replaced the two airbox hoses that go to the Air-Bypass valve and the Charge Relief Solenoid/valve since the rear one had a tear in it, and the whoosing sound is gone. Boost pattern now 10-8-8.

Using the troubleshooting guide found here: http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/rx7stuff.htm

I decided to check the valves (per above) and found one valve would NOT hold a vacuum. It is the valve closest to the airbox and hooked up to the turbo in-front. Unfortunately, I don't know if it is the air-bypass, or the charge-relief valve/solenoid ?

As such, I'd like to replace ALL the solenoids/actuators to set a baseline (I'm also going to install an Effini Y-pipe).

Anyone have the part-numbers and the quantities of each ?

I'll also need the pn#s for the vacuum chamber and pressure tank.

FWIW: I'm posting all the check-valve pn#'s I've found:

The all White one: N3A1-13-1995 (note: this is a revised p/n and is a very expensive part - $40)

The Black/Green one: N390-13-995A

The Green/White one: HE41-13-995

The Aluminum one: NF01-13-890

Note that Mazda has been consolidating part numbers lately and has started using N390-13-995A for the Black/Green and White/Green.

Thanks in advance,

:-) neil

FWIW: this is what I've found so far:

pressure regulator control solenoid (PN : 13-240 No.2)
Switching solenoid valve (PN : 18-740A No. 1)
precontrol and wastegate solenoid pair (PN: N3A1-20-285)

Don't replace the actuators unless they don't hold pressure or have trouble operating correctly. You can't even get new ones in some cases. (Precontrol and Wastegate only come with new turbos). Considering the cost of new parts, it's more sensible to buy low mileage used ones and see if they work first.

Solenoids can die a slow death by 93k, but buying all new ones is very, very salty. Since the car was producing nearly 10-8-10 I wouldn't worry about it. Test them all and record the values so that later you something to compare against if one appears to be having problems. If you want to go all out, then buy a whole set of low mileage solenoids from someone and pocket the difference. If this isn't part of a vacuum hose job, it should be. And since you found money for all new solenoids, replace the FPD and have the injectors cleaned and get new o-rings and grommets.

The non-functioning valve you're referring to appears to be the air bypass valve. It connects on the primary (front) side of the y-pipe. See http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/v...placement.html

Vacuum and pressure tanks are easy to test. Buy a low mileage one if you suspect yours is not functioning. The Mazda ones are quite salty.

I recommend buying the Mityvac Silverline Vac/Pres pump kit. And a multimeter. A trickle battery charger or other 12v supply is also needed to test the solenoids.

Whatever you decide to purchase I suggest getting from Malloy Mazda. Ray knows his FD parts and will be helpful in getting the right ones. Any schmo dealer won't know what they're looking at.

Mazdaformance have a kit with all the hoses and check valves on their site for $158. Nor sure if this would be cheaper than buying all the valves separately. Probably not though I'd be interested in seeing what the total price is that you come up with.

I bought the green check valves a couple years ago at tom bush mazda on atlantic blvd. But the guy that worked there saw the part and looked at the price and pretty much gave it to me for half the cost. I just made a comment and he adjusted the price and they did have it in stock. Or call ray at malloy mazda 888-533-3400
