Need Help on Engine Change
I'm replacing my shortblock with a new one from Malloy and I have a few questions for the experienced engine swapers out there:
I don't want to buy a proper engine stand; any ideas on how best to support the engines while I remove and transfer all the bolt-ons?
What gaskets do I need to puchase? is it cheaper to buy the individual gaskets from Ray at Malloy or buy the complete gasket set off EBAY for ~$450?
Thanks for your help

I just put the assemlbled engine on the floor with no sump and no oil pickup pipe on it. Then it sits flat on the ground fine, just sit it on something softish so you dont scratch up the sump gasket mating face.
After this, lift your engine and put the pickup pipe and sump on before you drop it back in.
Gaskets you will need will be lower intake manifold gasket, upper intake manifold gasket, turbo oil line gaskets, turbo to y-pipe gaskets and ACV gasket. Thats what i used anyway.
Im not suer what the ebay gsaket set consists of.

I built a very simple 3 sided frame from 2x4's that supported the engine by the flange on the pan. This kept all the weight off the pan itself and was very stable. If you have a helper and a sturdy workbench you can put the motor on that so you don't have to sit on the floor.

Thanks for your suggestions. I decided to go ahead and buy an engine stand. I didn't realize I could get a very nice "T" stand and rotary engine adaptor for $125 shipped to my door. Harbor Frieght has a great stand and Pineapple Racing makes a nice adaptor (although it costs more than the stand!).
