need help with decision on cars

I am seriously looking to buy a car in the next month or two. I have spent some time on the internet looking for pros and cons of the two cars that I want. The two cars are the 97-99 Eclipse GS-T or the 3rd Gen RX-7's. I've read a couple of sites that worship the FD but, then read about the cons on other sites. I know about the GS-T I have been on there site and gained the info I needed but, to make a sound decision I need some experienced information on the FD. Pros and cons, also I am in the military and I have a semi decent paycheck and recently filed for divorce. I am single and want the sports car I can be confident in and reliable. No like my previous car(67' Camaro always broke down, over 5000 in rebuilds and repairs and still breaks down). I would love any experiences and information to help in my decision. I always wanted a 400-500hp car but, right now I could settle with 300-400hp street legal and reliable car. Also need to know if I decide to get out of the military will the car make a 3,000 mile trip to my home town in new jersy. I apologize for the long post but, I need good info for a sound decision. Thank you for any help and greatly appreciate your time and patience.

America the beautiful,
America the free,
I have placed my life on the line,
To protect all of thee......

First of all, read through the sites posted on the newbie sticky at the top.

Secondly, if you want a reliable car making 300-400 hp, buy a new Corvette. Anytime you mod ANY car for significantly more horsepower than stock, you are shortening the lifespan and in many cases, you are creating a time bomb.

Thirdly, no, the FD is not the most reliable car. However, most of the reliability problems are boost-related and do not prevent you from driving the car. However, poor modding will result in blown engines. Also, the coolant seals WILL fail at some point, regardless of how well you take care of the car. Some people get 130k out of their 1st engine, some have gotten 80k or less. Modifications will decrease these numbers.

If you want a reliable FD, perform maintenance and checks frequently and religiously. Keep the car STOCK, except for mods such as downpipe and aluminum AST.

To me, it doesn't sound like the FD is the car for you. You MUST be obsessive about owning one of these cars. Otherwise you will not have the patience to deal with the crap you sometimes have to put up with.
