Need advices : Resonated or Non-Resonated Midpipe ?
I'm getting my Power FC soon and I want to go straight-pipe. I got an HKS downpipe and Apex'i N1 single catback exhaust.
Now for the midpipe, I don't want my car super loud so do I really need a resonated midpipe or a midpipe with a Borla muffler welded onto it ?
A normal Stainless Steel midpipe would the trick ?
I need your advices, thanks !

lol this should be good. Please write back after you install :p I would definately go with a resionated MP. Removing the cat has a significant impact on noise-ie not a 10-20% increase in volume, but more like 2x, 4x as loud. The biggest advantage of the resionated MP is it cuts down on the droning noise at cruising speed.

I have post something like this before..
Well, since with my experience.. i don't think Resonated or not really makes that much difference.. I have have heard in a similar cars..
i have straight mp with N1 dual.. and its loud.. best thing for you is to get a silencer to that exhaust.. I should be getting mine in few days.. i will let you know.. i have heard straight MP with RB exhaust and its less loud than my car with Cat and N1 dual.. So, its definitely more to do with catback..
I've also heard resonated MP with similar RB cat back and they are about the same..
Hope this helps..

Yeah the bitch nextdoor to me always complains to me that she "can hear my car all through the house". I have a Pettit DP, resonated MP, and JIC SS exhaust. The lady next to me is just a fuktard though. Sorry I just really don't like her very much

Sell it on the forum spend another $50 and buy the new greddy evo. It has a much throatier exhaust note, has a straight through muffler and doesn't make cheap buzzing noises at part throttle like the apex.

I have the HKS DP and Apex N1 dual ehxasust. The car was STUPID LOUD with a stright MP as well. After a week, I switched to the FEED large resonated MP and it sound level in much better - it made a huge difference. The Rx7Store has a resonated MP with a large megnaflow muffler in it, thats probibly the best one out there I can think of.

If you have a street port you shouldn't even have to ask that question. I installed a Moroso Spiral flow and the car is now quiet but at the expense of power loss. I would not consider a silencer, it's even worse then the Moroso and completely defeats the purpose of the mid pipe. The only exception is that thing Apexi sells that opens up with boost and screws in like a silencer at the tip.
Installing a muffler in the mid pipe depends on the pipe itself. I got mine from Rotary Extreme and it's pretty strait, so an oval can does not fit. If you could fit a Borla, spend the extra money on the multicore ($350) otherwise get a universal presilencer from Racing Beat. If you can not fit an oval you can get a steel packed resonator from coastfab for $250 that is 17" long which would easily fit on the strait section of the N1 pipe if not in the cat back but they do ahve a 12".

I've had both and the resonated does not work. Matter of fact, it's (Pettit resonated midpipe) at Gotham Racing if you want it. I had them take it off and they put in a Magnaflow muffler in the midpipe (Rx7store.net) and it works beautifully. Can carry on a conversation n the 3 rotor without losing my mind
Benefit from my pain and go Magnaflow or Borla.

Holy resurrected thread batman...
I'm currently using a 4" open from DP to CB. It's a Greddy power extreme and it's stupidly loud. I'm looking into getting a steel packed muffler from Burns (the 17 1/8") to shut it up. They say it's good for about 7-8 db. The 12" for about 4-5 db. They recommend that as opposed to the ceramic for this application.
For those who aren't familiar, +/-3db is twice/half as loud.

I also agree with everyone the RB catback with the rx7 store res. mp sounds really agressive but not too ricey. im curious would a regular straight mp give you more power?

This all depends on your definition of loud. My car came with the HKS superdragger and HKS dp. It was very loud and obnoxious. I now have the RB single tip with high-flow cat and HKS dp, it is still considerably loud (echoes off houses as I drive by, vibrates the pictures on the wall when in the garage). I have come to the conclusion that all 3inch exhaust is loud, Resonated means resnoated sound(not less sound), and that putting a silencer in is pointless unless you want to pull over and pull it out evrytime you want power.
You have to pay to play.

HP loss? They say you lose some power (10 or so HP) by going with the muffler midpipe, but it's definately worth it for your sanity. I must be getting old, less noise over more HP....

I'm about to throw on the rx7store DP/MP combo and I'm running the old RB duals. Anyone know how that sounds because right now my old RB duals are fairly quite.
