need advice on y pipe install, downpipe and smog help

Hey guys finally she starts up and runs. Only thing left is to get her smogged.
I have been going back to stock for the smog test but have a few questions.

Car as of now has Pettit street port, Greddy sp exhaust, walboro fuel pump.

My situation now is that I recently got an Efini Ypipe and wanted to install that, how difficult of a process is installing it and if the process requires removing the stock down pipe should I go ahead and install the 3" aftermarket downpipe since I'm already unbolting down there?

Ultimately I want to pass smog, but I don't want to have to go through a process twice if I don't have too.

Can I pass CA smog with this down pipe or should I stay stock and deal with the extra labor.

Thanks!

it's very simple to get down to the Y pipe, no need to remove the down pipe.

remove all the airbox crap so you can get down to the Y pipe. also remove the rear turbo hard intake pipe (the one near the firewall) in oder to get the stock Y pipe sections off. i suggest removing the whole Y pipe (front and back pieces) when you install. makes it much easier to remove, then pop them apart, plug on the new Y pipe section, and put them back on together.

old lower y pipe section

y pipe removed

new lower section installed

i ended up modifying my efini ypipe, now it looks like this

internal splitter (yes, i am non-seq)

welded up nipple for stock bov hose

btw, i know someone is going to chime in and rant about how the splitter in the Y pipe doesnt do anything, but don't bother.

Dang it

HA HA well I feel like an idiot I was thinking why does your Y pipe look different from mine and there is no way to getting the back bolts off with out going from the bottom. I didn't know it was two pieces.

I'm assuming there is no differnce from efini and us part that is circled?

Still it is a bit harder for me because I use the air pump still. Hopefully its possible to do without removing that. I really don't want to mess with belt tensions.

yes, the efini Y pipe kit really only replaces the section that bolts up to the front turbo & also the crossover pipe. you will still use the rear section of Y pipe.

stock (left) vs efini (right)

flipped over

since i was going non-seq with the turbos, i also welded up the rear section of Y pipe. over the summer we're going to fab our own Y pipe that will replace both the rear & front sections. i'll post a thread about it when we ever get that far...maybe other people who are non-seq might be interested...? here's how my y pipe ended up before we dropped the motor back in - kind of looks like crap with all the welds all over the pipes, but i'm sure they flow better now.

there is an O ring on the front section of Y pipe, that is what makes the seal between the pipes.

im sure it is possible to do the job without removing the rear section, but i wouldn't recommend it. if you have to force the two together than it may not seal properly

this is becoming a bigger pain in the @$$ then I thought. Is there any possible way of getting the y pipe out without removing the air Pump? If not How do I remove the AIr pump? the hose and fittings for air pump wrap around the top of the Y pipe. ANd unbolting the air pump does not give the belts enough slack to get the air pump lose.
