Need advice: Key doesn't unlock trunk

So I bought my FD last summer. Turns out the one key I got with it doesn't unlock the trunk. So I was thinking it was the valet key, but then discovered the key fit the glovebox & storage bins... so I am assuming one of the previous owners simply had the lock changed on the trunk. So how would I go about fixing the situation so my key unlocks the trunk? Can I call Mazda, and could they order a replacement lock from my VIN, or could I take the car to a locksmith & have him set the trunk lock so it works with my key? Any advice would be appreciated... it's a pain to have to open the door & use the latch!

they should be able to rekey the lock cyclinder to your key.

It could be that it is dirty inside from not being used often. Mine was like that and I just took a can of spray white lithium greese and used the little red straw to spray it all in the lock. Now it works perfectly.

Graphite is a far better lubricant for locks - WLG can gum up the small tumblers in there.

Squirt graphite into the lock, then work your key in and out a few times. If you still can't get the cylinder to move, remove the cylinder and take it to a locksmith. For a few bucks, they'll re-do the tumblers to match your key, as well as clean it out and get it moving smoothly.

It shouldn't be too hard to remove the key cylinder - haven't pulled that one before, but it was dead easy on FC's .

Since you guys thought it could be dirt, I tried to wiggle my key in the lock, hoping to it might break loose any dirt... the key goes in 1/3 of the way... & feels like its running into a serious blockage (not a little dirt... it feels like I am pressing my key against a wall)... so maybe something got shoved in the lock? Is it possible to just pull the lock off & remove anything that's inside... or is that something (opening up a lock) I should leave to the pros?
