Cool Guys, It's 100 octane UNLEADED and it DOES...

...run better at 10 PSI, whis my max boost setting since I'm still runninf a factory bone stock ECU.

I have a K&N flat panel air filter for my stock air box, an M2 downpipe W/ a Random Technology metal matrix hi-flow pre cat custom welded in and a Pettit 3 inch stainless exhaust W/ Pettit's hi-flow main catalytic converter.

I have an accelerometer and it does post a 0-60 mph time consistently .4 sec. better 0-60 with 100 octane than the 91 octane crap the western US calls "premium" gas. In Pensylvania I used Sunoco 94 octane and it ran nicely. Out here I cringe and never run it to 10 psi when I have to use 91 octane.
Basically the US has a poorer selection of gas (and Deisel) than does western Europe or Japan.
BUT...100 octane does make a difference you can feel! A lot of RX-7 stories in magazines very likely get their good test numbers on 100 octane - or better - gasoline.

i dont know about you but running higher octane gas doesnt increase HP..

and you can just make your own race gas if you want to save money..my friend and i are filling up his t2 with 87/toulene and he's boosting 16psi..(i think)

So Cal ppl.. If you are around the ontario area and want to fulfill your 99 unleaded octane addiction, PM me.. $3.50 a gallon i think. This thread is going to make me start filling up with 99 octane.. I must resist the temptation to spend money on FD..

Yeah, California is 91 octane premium statewide. Pretty crappy.

Like someone mentioned above if you have no cats you can use the low lead aviation fuel. It's cheaper than race fuel and the rotary loves it. Of course most airports will not let you pump it directly into your car. You have to get yourself a drum to fill up and take home.

As far as 100 octain unleaded... yes you can make a lot more power IF you tune for it and up the boost.

7Langit - I've done a number of track days at Spring Mountain Raceway near Pahrump and I usualy head down to the Rebel station and put in 3 or 4 gallons of 100 oct as "insurance" even though I don't really need it for more power. I think it was $4.00 a gallon even last time I was there.

Don't agree on the gas issue at all. Run what the car is tuned with. 100 octane is not going to do squat for a car tuned on 93 except maybe slow it down.

My high boost map was tuned on 103. Put 112 in it and watch it bog and misfire. High octane gas burns slower. Octane protects motors. You don't need anything more than your car is tuned for.

So I fill her up with Unocal 76's best and WOOO! HOOO! She delivers and it's so nice zooming around the foothills of Vegas in my beauty as she gets high in 100 and I get high on the delicious fumes from that $4.29./gallon joy juice.
I just tickle the go pedal and we GO!. Then it's up a canyon and carving the turns to Mt. Charleston or Red Rocks or Parumph.

Is there a 12 step program for me and my 7 to help us kick this awful(ly good) habit?
Not sure I see the point to this thread. 7Langit consider commiting yourself to a psychiatric ward.

I've been to one station in Irvine that has 93. There's probably a few other scattered locations.

Just for comparison

Just for comparison, as I live in England.

Unleaded 97 RON = £0.89 per litre, which to you guys means $8.35 for a gallon.

Anything above 97 RON you cant buy in a normal high street gas station!

Think yourselves lucky!

"Low lead" avgas is NOT the same as "unleaded". Low lead still has lead in it and will harm o2 sensors and cats.

Lead is lead and in a car that isn't made for it will in time to bad things. I also agree that high octane is only worth while in a car that is tuned for it. So, stock or near stock power levels wont really care but those who are looking for 20psi and a single turbo or something then yes. A few octane diff. can make a diff. When I was in Cali, I did notice little bit higher knock levels overall with their 91 but nothing that would destroy may engine. Torco claims to me a "Real" octane booster though instead of those over the counter brands.
