Remember he is running moderate boost numbers. He could turn the boost up even on pump gas. Tuning and race gas?

Oh yeah that's on a Supra motor, but I won't say anything
Compare the curves and run the same boost.

So how much does it really cost do a complete 3-rotor/single conversion? I'm just planning on how to spend my CA Lottery winnings

congrats Mike!

but one thing is confusing me... when you dropped your car off... wasnt there some sort of a 800rwhp guarentee or the job was free? something like, drop the car off, pay $35K, come to the shop, go to the dyno with the guys, and walk out with a 800+ rwhp car??? i am 100% possitive i did read this before.

However, comparisons with other dyno results are meaningless unless all numbers are SAE. And yes, SAE takes into account climate conditions as well as elevation.
SAE is only comparable at sea level for turbos. The elevation corrections are for NA engines, and wrong for most turbos. If a turbo is gage regulated to 15 psi regardless of elevation, the SAE method will overcorrect at 5000 ft, with too much corrected hp.

proper corrections for runs with 12.5 psi ambient at 5000 feet:

na:
14.7/12.5= 1.18 (as in SAE)

turbo at 15 psi
(14.7+15)/(12.5+15)= 1.08

1.18/1.08 => 9% overestimated hp at 5000 ft

fudge factors: ... can be an issue with any dyno run.

I have added your dyno to my dyno page at

http://www.catenet.net/dyno.php

I have a couple predictions:

o You will get NO traction unless you put in some seriously taller gears
o You better have one hell of a cooling system!

Hehehehe good job!

Yes. This was an original part of the deal. Yet, this was changed to my needs. I chose a smaller turbo than the original one scoped for the car. While having 800 rwhp and 1100 rwhp on tap would be nice, it isn't very practical for my usage. The car can still produce it, but it will not make the 1k mark with the current turbo. At 13/14 psi, the turbo is maxed out on efficiency.

I had a choice when it came down to it.. Bragging rights of a 1k rwhp car being undrivable (for my usage), or a 650 rwhp car at a very low 13/14 PSI of boost; which is manageable.

And no worries though, I still have a few things in the works.. Over the next 6 months, I will be picking up a little larger custom turbo to provide those numbers. The idea is for the turbo to be an easy swap, depending on the needs of the car.

Sweet. That is kick *** to be able to see various charts of peoples dyno's.

I like comparing my dyno to another single turbo 13b at comparable boost... interesting.

Sorry for casting doubt without asking for a mods list first, that was my bad!

Oh yea, I know. I didnt mean it like it was your fault or anything. I was just making the comment.

BTW - I really like your site and I use it all the time! Its on my favorites list.

You know what would be interesting info. Do you have a way to seeing stats on all those sheets to see how many times a certain dyno has been selected. It would be interesting to see what most people going to the site are looking for.

The funny thing about Rikki's sheets is that he wasn't lying. He was just sort of twisting things around with the whole "race gas" thing and ignition timing. However, his engine was nicely ported.

Yes I know, I just found the crayon drawing that looks like a 5 y/o did it rather amusing. Maybe huffner will check in, who knows..

Oh and I forgot to say it but congrats on this dyno sheet. I think the logic around pretty much 600 or hp being enough, and not shooting the gap looking for the 1000rwhp too. 1000rwhp would be impressive, but I think(and you can tell me if I'm wrong) that 600 rwhp should be MORE than enough for any kind of street driving.

600 hp should be more than enough for any kind of race driving too - besides 24 hrs of Le Mans in a 3-rotor FD.

Well I can say I"ve seen several 3 rotor dynos, ridden in a few, and even drove one myself.... this one looks like the best one I've seen so far!

You've really got me reconsidering doing a 20B now! My 406 rwhp at 14 PSI is just kinda... snore.... now....

My car vs Red's 3 rotor

http://www.catenet.net/graph.php?car...1&SUBMIT=GRAPH

MOST 3 rotors I've seen just don't "stack up" that well vs a 2 rotor when you factor in cost... in other words, yeah they might make 50-75 more hp than me, and definitely more low-end punch.. on a ROAD COURSE where you're in the powerband most of the time... they aren't THAT great... and they cost a LOT more and take a LOT more work to build... like these two vs my car:

http://www.catenet.net/graph.php?car...1&SUBMIT=GRAPH

Sure they make more power or better low range... but they are way more complicated to build.... mine is ALL bolt on stuff except the street port.

This new 3 rotor dyno makes me want one!

Brian

So how do you plan to keep that much HP cool?

3 major reason I haven't done a 3 rotor yet are:

1 - How the hell do you cool it?
2 - How do you keep traction (fender flares?)
3 - How do you gear it and keep it together? (Guru?)

I understand your point but it's not fair to compare a "complete" custom engine swap to the basic bolts-ons of your personal car and then say overall a 20b's to expensive. I guarantee you if Mazda actually made the 20b available as a factory option in the Rx7, we would not be having this conversation. You do realize that there are people on this board to whom have spent 15K plus just to modify their 13b's to high hp figures w/singles? There are also people who have installed 20b's themselves for less than that.

Don't underestimate the displacement advantage a 20b gives a person who wants "RELIABLE/DURABLE" high hp. There is no comparison that a 20b is far more superior to the 13b in this respect. Also, you don't have to drive the **** out of a modded 20b to get the most performance out of it like you would a modded 13b.
