Haha sweet Matt!!! Now NPA! may have 2 3rd Gen RX7's...if Greg allows of course . That would kickass! I got rid of my Probe for my FD and, well, it was a good choice. And oh, get the MTX

Don't let others talk you out of an AT. The fastest top fuel drag cars are AT's. But in my opinion, for daily driving I'd rather have a MT. You have more control over the vehicle. Even in stop and go driving (rush hour on the freeway), I'd rather have a MT. I agree with sejanus, find a friend with a low power MT, like a Focus, to learn on. I don't recommend learning on a 7.

Well I had a 93 MX-6 and an 93 RX-7 at the until last week. I repaced the MX-6 with a WRX. I guess I like Xs and three letter designations. I know this is an old thread so I might be too late. All my cars have/had manual transmissions. The only thing is the RX-7 clutch pedal is kind of heavy in bad traffic. Yesterday I drove a whole mile on the freeway without going fast enough for the speedo to register. My left leg was getting tired. The MX-6 was never annoying. Also the MX-6 has MUCH better torque at low RPMs. The RX-7 and WRX leave a little to be desired there. All three cars are fun but I personally will stick to the manuals.

Dude get a Manual transmission. PERIOD.

FD3S can be a fickle car and Automatics will just add
more issues to the car. I remember years ago when i
took my FD3S for its recall work, and at the Dealer ship
there were 2 other Automatic FD3S owners there.
And they were having major issues with their Automatics

Trust me.. Go rent a car with manual Trans, and have
a buddy that knows how to drive a stick to teach you.
You'll learn how to drive a stick in 30 minutes.
Guarantee, Unless you are truely clueless. Hope
you aren't.

People pay alot of Money to convert their Auto's to
Manual. Save yourself money and hassle down the road.
Save yourself the embarassment and grief, years from
now, when your car is all modded up with body kits and
etc. And when people look in your car and say
" its an automatic ?@#%$##@"

I like the other analogies. but how about this one.
"FD3S with automatic is like having GF with a bomb
body but with a ship wrecked face". haha

goodluck

Get a manual trans.
hell of a lot more fun!!

If you're truly into the fun of driving and having the car communicate to you, then you can't go without a manual.

OTOH, if you just wanna cruise around, then get an auto. Leave the manual for others who need to downshift for the hairpin turn after the long straightaway

Most importantly, take good care of your 7, regardless of which type of transmission you end up with.

My experience was that my MX-6 was in the shop more than my RX-7. Of course it did have 6 CLeveland and 1 Chicago winters before I got it back to California. And it was my primary driver. But don't bother me with the facts.

Don't let the Auto Haters on this forum scare you - I was a die hard MT man but because it was the only FD I could find & afford ($4k less than the MTs and better condition) I got an AT fd with the intention of convrting it to MT But since the the car is my daily driver / commuter vehicle I now don't think I ever will - the HOLD feature gives you 95% of the functionality of a MT but you still get the benifits of the AT when in stop & go traffic. I don't drag race so slow off the line is not a problem for me. However I do Time Trials with the car and find the HOLD button gives me just as much engine braking as a MT (it locks the TQ Conv.) with smooth downshifts, and it never misses a shift!

MX-6 and RX-7

I personally own a 93 Touring RX-7 and 1993 MX-6.

I love both cars. To Tell you the truth, You cant compare both cars, We know RX7 handles and Drives like a True Sports Car. It drives well and perform as such. However as a sport car is a high performance and high maintance car.

In the Other the MX-6 is very confortable car! Feels very sporty, has very good pick up and acceleration because of the DOHC and inside is feels very nice and smooth ride to cruise around.

RX7 feel much tougher, rigid ride and with no room and in a way i feel like there is no room, which is very good for a sports car. However Both Cars cant be compared, One is a Sports Car and the Other One is a Sports Sedan.

I have done a research on many cars, test drove many cars and even borrowed many cars to drive before I bought them and I like the mx-6 and rx7 the best.

The only other car That I would want to buy in the future is 2001-2002 BMW ///M3 This car has the best of both worlds, Confortable, Reliable, fast, and everything is just perfect about the car.

In the other hand another car that feels and handles as good as an MX-6 is a 1996-1997 Nissan 240SX

Just a piece of advice for you to follow !

Now if you want something equivalent to the MX-6, Just get a MAZDA Speed Protege or wait until the new MAZDA 6 Comes out.

Yeah I miss my MX-6. The WRX I replaced it with is nice but there are some comfort factors that are better on the MX-6. It did feel a little sportier and I fit perfect. I like the WRX too but it will take a little getting used to .
