Mustang guys in a tizzy over 9-sec RX7's

Thought y'all might find this interesting. Mustang owners anguishing over how much they would have to spend to go sub-10sec.

hehe, thanks I enjoyed that, great to see what other people think. I don;t think you can get more opposite from 7 owners than mustang owners. I don;t understand this part though. Mustangs are family sedans with big engines. Most fo the ones on the road are economy boxes. I mean they haev no aluminum parts most don;t have ind' suspensions, etc. My point is, if you don't have that car for speed, what the hell else would you keep it. After all it is built molre cheaply than a ford taurus.

Don't get me wrong I liek mustangs, but I would just through a turbo on it, and be done with it. 5k later and 500hp, you woudl be good to go. simple in my opinion.

So what is the point? Yes a stock twin turbo RX7 probably can take a stock Mustang GT. It will be a close race though.. A stock Cobra 99+ will beat a stock RX7 so what is the argument
umm is this true? do the 99+ cobra's have what it takes?

I think a stock 2001 Cobra was rated at a 13.5 or 13.6 at 3400lbs and the 2000 Saleen S351 only ran a 13.0

LOL Jim, your first post cracked me up.

There seems to be quite a lot of ignorance in that forum. But whatever. At least a few of them can respect the car for what it is.

I know I can respect the Mustang for what it is, and it's history.

Hey. I've been looking around at this Forum for a while now, and when I saw this, I figured it's time to sign up.

I appologize for those idiots back there. I've started finding that a lot of the Members there are quite thick headed....It's unfortunate that not everyone can accept a cool car. I wanted to get a RX7 myself (1st gen...I'm not rich! ), but I needed something that could be driven in the winter, and I've heard that rotary's are tough to get started (if at all), in extreme cold.

Next summer however, I'd like to purchase a GSL-SE 5spd for a nice little street racer.

You'll be seeing me here a lot I bet!

Ok....what year are you guys talking about???
There are 3 generations, 2 engine changes, and then with or without turbo from the factory.

Now...I believe the second gens had the 255 HP, have to check. But...the 3rd gens ;'93-'95 put out 276 produced by a 1.3 liter engine with twin sequential turbo chargers.

(All this complements of my hubby...)
hahahhaha

i wish....

This guy's a real genius:
<<But lets look at this from another angle. The people i know, including me, when we see a Stang on the streets, we dont wonder what it runs in the quarter. In fact we dont even care. Most people DONT race the quarter or any track at all. Theres more to a car than what it does at the track and thats what a Stang offers us. Personally, id rather have a V8 and look good sporting it. >>

Ummm, when I see a Rustang, Cobra or no, I don't care what it runs in the quarter either....I wonder if he'll spin off the road trying to keep up with me in the twisties .

And isn't that really all they're good for? Straight-line performance? So what do they care about? Top speed? Maybe "looking good sporting it?"

That thread just makes me want to gloat more the next time I destroy one of these TX "Runnin Stangs" that frequent this area...

If you want to out run him, your going to have to spend some serious money. But, it should be quite simple. Call SHM and get a 318 stroker long block, when you have that installed call TDC and get the stage III turbo kit. And you will definately run 10's. Just think, all it cost to out run a modded rx-7 is 15k!!!!!

$15k to beat a modded 3rd-gen!!!!???? For that much money I can throw a 3-rotor engine in and have those rustangs line up for a ***-whipping.
MAn! Their forum thread says , "This is a Disgrace!" The only disgrace is on that forum. How some car onwers are so stupid, (THICKHEADED!). Some/most of those rustang guys have no clue. In the beginning posts they did'nt even know what a rotary engine is but there talking sh*t about the car. NOW THAT'S FUNNY!!!!
Saying stock Rustang GT's will edge out a stock 3rd-gen, when in reality we hang stock with a stock Cobra's.

SOME PEOPLE WILL NEVER LEARN UNTIL THEY GET THERE ASSES HANDED OVER TO THEM!!!!!!

Dang the mustang boys are pissed. Guess they haven't figured out the big heavy v-8's aren't the fastest any more. Heck for $15,000 they can beat that rx-7 but drop 15,000 into a rex and man you would run way under 9's.

> Ahh, he may be faster, but in my book there is no replacement for the sound and feeling that you get out of a V8. Throw some rice in a coffee can and shake it around. That's about the best one of those tiny engines is ever going to sound. <

I nearly spewed Dew (mountain, that is) all over my monitor when I read that! Hehe they must be discussing the fairly common weedwhacker sound. That's especialy funny to me because my engine has a real throaty bass note at idle, not unlike a boom car's sound system playing a steady bass note. That's thanks to my interesting exhaust system.

> When it is comes to exhaust sound, there truely is no replacement for displacement. <

I think a Ferrari V8 sounds better than a ford V8. Aren't most Ferrari V8s smaller than 5.0? Even a Dodge V8 sounds better than ford!

Well, speaking of displacement and good exhaust sound, they've obviously never heard a 20B before. Who was it that said a 20B feels better than a V8?

If they are mad about the 9 seconds, wait until they actually drive one of our cars and see what else they can do. Those Mustangs handle like a wounded rhino. They turn corners like an SUV with a flat tire. Have you ever tried to use the brakes on one of them? You would have to add a parachute and Fred Flintstone's feet to get them to stop in the same distance.

I enjoy this thread

I have a 94 Mustang GT, heavy suspension mods and supercharged etc. It is fun to drive and yes very quick.

I also have a 93 RX7, more fun to drive than the mustang, not as quick but has higher top end and handles the curves better. It feels like I'm a part of the RX7 while I feel like I'm sitting on top of the Mustang. The difference between a GT car and a sports car.

My next car?

Another 93 or 94 RX7 hands down.

Not as bad as That!!!!! It is eight pages long of stupidity before they closed the thread. They had no clue what a rotary engine is and talking so much smack about the car thinking that we had a four banger or something. There were some rustang owners that shined some light on the topic and knew what they were talking about.

But fact is that it takes lots of $$$$ to mod a Rustang to hang with a modded RX-7 rotary power and that is only in straight line. Starting with rebuilding the whole engine again for the V8 like stronger pistons, rods, building up lower end and so on to even throw and good amount of boost in.

I have some friends that have Modded rustangs and all I can say that they never beat me!!!!!!
