Muffler suggestions

Alright guys,

I am looking to quiet my exhaust down just a bit. Right now i have a straight 3 inch catback with no muffler and I really like the way it looks.

I like the way it sounds as well but it just a little too loud. Does anyone have an suggestions on a muffler 3 inch in and 3 inch out that i couold just simply put in my cat back that would quiet it down a bit with out giving it a strange tone

any help is appreciated

thanks

adam

For weld-in parts, I've heard Borlas are a really good choice with excellent tone. I don't think they make a bolt-in assembly for the FD though so you might not hear much talk about that one.

If you're willing to do a whole new cat-back I'd recommend the PFS or Racing Beat single tip cat-backs.

I dont know about mufflers to say, but i picked up a catback a while back from autornd from the forum here.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=617862

That is the thread i got it from. They also have it listed on their site.

It has a resonated pipe built into the exhaust and there is a dyno movie on the top of the 2nd page. its the last car when the dyno scene changes. It is indoors with the doors closed, so its echo'ing off the walls. I believe it would be a quiet exhaust. Also the piping is 2.75.

I have yet to install it due to no time with college, but it is part of my winter projects that i have planned.

Ya i like the Racing Beat dual tip the only hold up i have is the fact that i really like the tone mine produces and the way it looks that is why i didnt want to completely replace the whole catback just put something in it to quiet it down. Right now mine is straigt three inch then about 8 inches before it ends it splits into two 3 1/2 inch "tips" and the split in the pipe and such makes it sounds actually really nice.

We are both in the same situation. You could experiment with a midpipe resonator section. I was going to see if I could bush down a 5" piece of pipe to fit the 3 inch exhaust and make a resonator. Racing beat splits the exhaust into 2 pipes on their first gen exhaust to have 2 resonators. I was thinking ideally you'd want to overlap the 3" exhaust side by side for about 4 inches and then wrap the side by side in a muffler deally so the exhaust gas would have to do a uturn before exiting out the back.

here's racing beats presilencer

here is their dual silencer set up.

additionally, you could try a heavier gauge pipe or stainless. It seems to me when I heard your exhaust it was still bus pipe you had custom made? When I went to stainless it changed the tone a lot and when I went to titanium it got a lot louder. You could split into 2 pipes and then come back together before your tail pipe and that would quiet it down a bit.

Your car sounds great. Is it too loud in the car or outside the car? Put some dynamat in the trunk and it will quiet it down in the car.
