Montego Blue & Black
Hey Guys, I've been looking into getting a 3rd gen RX7 and have been seeing a lot of Montego Blue's for sale..I'm truely interested in either Black or Red..but I've seen a a couple of pictures of Montego Blue and correct me if I'm wrong but it looks very much like black, or is that just the lighting??? Is Montego Blue, really blue??? I've seen a coulpe of pictures of a really blue car..I assumed that was more Aqua and a custom paint job..

If it's the one in Ft Lauderdale go for it! I was down there having upgrades done on mine at dave's shop.. The owner of this car....It is probably the cleanest 93 I have ever seen and he is an 3rd gen mechanic so you know the car is right.. I think it has 40K all original.Beeautiful!!!G!

My car is Montego Blue so I am biased
I would say the color is actually a very dark sea green. In normal light it just looks blue but in bright sunlight you see a very, very dark sea green with some metallic qualities. I have never seen a photo that does it justice; it just looks blue.
I am complimented all the time on the color; I prefer it to red or black.

The Montego blue is a blue color with a "pearl" like look of green. I love the color of the car, cause you don't see one every day. I have a black one, and I wanted one forever, so I had to wait and look. The red is the most common of all the colors, and the black on black is the most rare of all the R2's. The yellow is the most rare of the R1's....but of the touring.....yes the Montego blue is the most rare.

Actually, the Montego Blue Metallic has a type of gold leaf/similar metallic compound added to it. The blue itself is very dark and is best seen in lighted but shaded the areas. The result is a car that has 3 different colors:
Green: In the presence of bright, direct sunlight, the yellow pigment is reflected producing a blue/yellow mix that makes the car look green
Blue: In the absence of direct light reflecting on the paint, the car looks its natural dark blue color
Black: At night, in the absence of any light. Even in very dim lighting next to a black car, its hard to tell the difference.
Also, all R1/R2 models have black interior. Silver is by far the rarest R model color(only 99 silver R2's made compared to 350 yellow 1's). Of the touring, Montego Blue is the second most common color(behind red and ahead of silver, black, and white)

Yes, JspecFD has the right of it......
Montego Blue is a great color, actually....it sort of reminds me of some of the more modern "color shifting" paints like DuPont Chromallusion.....depeding on the viewing angle, it is constantly changing tints.....
But then, I am biased!

Thanx for all the comments guys..even the biased ones.. If I find a nice MB on tan..I will be sure not to easily overlook it..I guess this is an easy way of getting the semi-chameleon look stock..

whats up...
Although i wouldn't mind having a white FD either...I think the Cym and montego Blue are the best color for an FD. Silver is sweet as well, but i think Montego Blue really brings out the cuts of the car. I was origally looking at a 93 Silver base model but ended up with my 94 MB Touring. I think i really lucked out. I really love the color of the car and if i was asked to trade for any other color i would prolly stick with my MB. JSpecFD is right about the pigmentation. My auto body guy had a hernia trying to match the body color when i was getting my bumber re finished. But thats the price you have to pay for such a unique piece of equipment.

JoeD do you own a fd?
hehe just kidding. we all have our own Opinions
montego is a really nice color to me and I love it. but then again I think all fd's look great in almost any color.
like most have said it changes colors. most people that see it at night think its black and dark metallic green at times. As others i have had a lot of nice comments on the color. or maybe its just the car
