Modifying stock air duct: Good as Ram Air?

So I bought a stock Air Duct ( the big piece of plastic that sit in front of the IC and connects to the stock filter box supplying fresh air from the front radiator opening in the nose of the FD) from a fellow member and I'm going to modify it so that it works with my Blitz SUS filters. I think it'll provide plenty of cold/fresh O2 to my filters.

Question: shouldn't this work just as well as if the car had a "do it yourself Ram Air type hose system" that is usually installed at the front bottom connecting to the R1/spoiler lip??

Has anyone done this before to work with their aftermarket intake filter system?

The cfm of air that the turbos demand far exceeds any sort of 'ram air' effect any set-up is capable of generating. So what you are doing sounds perfectly fine to me.

usually a ram air intake is fully sealed so it can be pressurized. It is an attempt to make boost. Since you already have a turbo, it just makes more sense to have a cold air intake.

I should be receiving the Air Duct next week. I'll take photos of it in it's modified installed state and post them on this thread. Thanks for the replies/input.!!

doesent sound like it would hurt anything. i dont think it will be a "ram air" type system, but it will help to bring cold air to the intakes.

the benefit would be in cooler dense air as opposed to hot underhood air. not "ramming" 10 degs F drop in intake temps when mixed with the proper amount of fuel for the same a/f ratio will result in a 1% increase in power
