^ You're not really catching on. We're talking about installing a metal valve completely blocking off the mid-pipe when the high-flow cat is in use, and blocking the cat when the mid pipe is in use.

That's where the diverter comes in. It determines if it goes through the mid pipe or the cat.

Yep! When the valve is open the exhaust flow will automatically flow through the straight pipe section because the cat is more restrictive.

It's an interesting idea - you could definitely have a quieter car that doesn't stink like **** all the time, and open the bypass valve for extra punch.

That would get annoying to pay him off every year. It's not always about smog testing. Some of us don't want an obnoxiously loud exhaust all the time. You get the best of both worlds with this set-up.

ya exactly, i mean i like loud exaust as much as the next guy but i dont need to be getting fix it tickets either. its probably also posible to put a small muffler instead of a cat to reduce the noise except the air pump would be pointless to have until it comes time to smog and that is just another thing to install and uninstall every time u have to smog...
