mazdaspeed ast and profec

Today i installed my profec type S. The instructions i found after searching this forum helped me a lot in installing my BC. With the BC off 7psi achieved.

I also installed the Mazdaspeed AST. Quality of the AST is very good. Installation was as simple as it gets.

I also got FC thermoswitch. Firstly, it was a pain locating where that thing plugs into. Took the alternator off (ofcourse along with the other things mentioned in other threads), later realized there was no need for it. My rx7 is 1998 model. The stock harness end of the coolant sensor DOESNOT fit the fc thermoswitch. I'll take pics tomorrow and post them, that is if i have correctly pointed out the thermoswicth location (correct me if i'm wrong).

See attached pics. More pics to follow.

That's the ECU's water temp sender - the thermoswitch is under it. At least it should be there - with your car being a 98, it's possible that things are different. The water temp sensor looks identical to the '93-95s, though.

Mmm. Funny, it seems like it should be visable in that picture (just underneath as Dale mentioned). IIRC, they were close enough that I disconnected the top sensor just to have easier access.

Hey Dale, it was actually after reading your thread that I got my FC switch. I got it from Japan. The part number and picture of the item matches exactly the one which you posted in your thread. Dale, I dont know, I did look for it underneath the ECU water temp sender, nothing was there. I'll try and take more pics of it tomorrow. I'm stumped. Maybe in the later years Mazda might have changed certain things. Dale, if you do find any info regarding the later models, it would help me a lot. So please do let me know if you come across any such information.

Yep, I'm pretty sure I didnt see any other connections under the ecu's water temp sender.

Just curious...the Mazdaspeed AST looks nice, do you mind telling how much it cost?
Do you think it has any advantage over the other AST's, such as Pettit? Or are they all pretty much the same?

Guys, he got the Mazdaspeed because it's a LOT easier/cheaper for him to get JDM parts in Bangladesh than it is to get US parts...

Congrats on the installs, Tahmid!

Tyler, thank you so much for all the advice. You are absolutely correct in what you said. Getting JDM parts for me is much cheaper and easier. For example the Profec Type S cost me USD240. In my opinion it is reasonable. The AST also cost me around USD 250 (i know its high). I could have bought the AST from USA, however I didnot have any connections and people are reluctant to help the unknown. Giving out credit card numbers on the internet is very risky.

Can't really say anything about that, since I haven't seen the built quality of the US products (AST). All i can say is that the quality of the Mazdaspeed AST is very good.

Before you send the switch back I'd do some more checking. I have to believe there's a thermoswitcih on your car somewhere. Hopefully in a location that easier than the North American models. If you do find it, be sure to post the location. I'm just curious.

Sgtblue: Very nicely put. To be honest, I didnot continue searching for it after I realized that it wasn't there in that location. I'm sure too that there is a thermoswitch, however since i don't have much knowlegde of the rotary engine, i refrain from opening up and putting together the parts.

I mostly do light street driving, and it's my weekend car. There has never been a cooling issue. I read up Dale's thread and thought it would be wonderful reliability mod, thats why i ordered the part. I wont be sending the part back, rather give it to someone who needs it FOR FREE. I'd even ship the part to them FOR FREE.

I want to buy the fan controller, maybe HKS since Dale already has a write up on that. If I ever come across the thermoswicth location in my car, I'll most definately post it here.
