Mazda dealer said...

So I called the mazda dealer today to see if he could get me some pillow ball bushing and he said he had no clue what they were, Apperantly they have worked on "quite a few" and then I said mines JDM and he said that "from my experiences no JDM and USDM parts are interchangeable because JDM have differant safety standards and do things different for the euro market". He said I need to order my bushings from Japan or some where else but they will be happy to put them in hahaha, I just need two for now...so is that true about JDM??

The guy is an idiot. Do not buy from him and NEVER let him work on your car. Call Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda in the US.

Vancouver Island...if it's Nanaimo's, then share my pain in wanting to rip your ears off listening to those tools talk. Bring them part numbers, usually works that way

he's an idiot because someone called and requested "pillow ball bushings".

burn him at the stake!

maybe 15 years plus ago when these cars actually commonly saw the dealerships you might get parts guys who actually knew more what the common parts failures were and might have half an idea what the **** you were talking about.. otherwise you might, just might have to give some sort of a description of the part, where it goes and what it does.

I usually try and get them to pull up the parts diagram and I point at what I want. Then they proceed to argue that I don't need it. If they argue, I assume they should know more than me.
It's not just the Mazda dealer I have problems with. I've rebuilt the front end on two of my Super Duty trucks. The first one, the parts guy looked at me like I'm retarded requesting some specific Orings I needed. The second time I told the guy "I'm doing the front end on an '05 F350" he goes in the back with a bag and comes back within 5 seconds with every single part, no arguing or sighing.
It's weird the difference in service you can get at the same place.

at the dealership i worked at one of our problems was getting people to come pick up their parts, even AFTER they were paid for!

to the other question, if you walk into the dealership and say you want a bag of **** for an FD, you'll get all the gaskets, hoses and fasteners to pull the turbo off and put it back on.... still.

you order a bag of **** for a millenia S, and you'll get some head scratching, because its been a while, and the bag is worth more than the car, but eventually you'll get a bag of all the junk you need to do the valve cover gaskets.... the supercharger comes off, the millenia is more complex and expensive than the FD

depends who is working the counter, in some places parts guys have been at the same dealer for 20+ years, in some you get some jockey right out of a pep boys parts store with no knowledge of particulars beyond maybe current to a few year old makes, and even that takes months.

point is, if you walk up to some random parts guy and ask for something that is a generic title you will get all sorts of responses. if you narrow down your description like if you were actually typing it into google you might get a better response: " i need the pillow ball mounts for the tops of my struts, not the whole struts.". a little more to the point and gives at least an area to look.

working at the dealer you may have terms for certain things, not everyone is going to know what you're talking about so you always have to be prepared to be a little more in depth even when you're talking to the same old drunk guy who can read what you want before you even get to the counter.

If you can't find them locally, you can order some from my website www.j-auto.net. JDM parts are interchangeable between JDM and non-JDM RX-7s. Especially suspension parts.

Karack - Dealerships didn't know how to work on these cars when they came out. If you want to pretend that isn't true, by all means be my guest.

Since I'm not the only one mentioning he should find someone else to work on the car, it is fairly safe advice...well except for the "Rotary Only Shops" that miss deadlines, complain about customers, etc. Know any of those?

When I talked the Mazda I just wanted to know about parts and if they have ever seen or even worked on one, I'm never going to take my car there, just was hoping they would have some experience but from the sounds of it I think not. The closest place for me to take my car would be in Vancouver some where (forget the name) I live central Vancouver island and that's about 4 or so hours toget to van. I'm no rotary wiz but I know how to pull a wrench haha. But my drive way and road is pretty much a 45 degree slop haha give or take a few degrees. I'm still trying to learn as much as i can about these awesome cars

FD01-26-220 Give them that part number and tell them you need 6. Then see what their price is. The call Ray Crowe and get a good deal on them. Dealerships for the most part know nothing about our cars.

you will also need 12 dust seals, since it will be nearly imposible to use the old ones.

wah. what i simply said was you have to explain where a part is located, if you did not realize i worked at auto dealers for 15 years. sometimes a little detail is required, is that some new concept? no.
