M2 vs. Pettit Intake?
I would like to either buy the M2 carbon fiber intake kit, or the Pettit TKT cold air intake kit. Which of these have you guys had the most success with, quality, fit and finish, and performance wise?
thanks

I wouldn't even put the M2 and rx7fashion boxes in the same category as the Pettit intake. They will all work about the same although I'd say the intake air will be cooler with the M2 or rx7fashion boxes. The construction quality and appearance of the M2 and rx7fashion boxes blows away the Pettit -- that's part of what you are paying for.
The rx7fashion box has the advantage of fitting better with upgraded radiators than the M2 box, while the M2 box is apparently extremely light.

hmmm well i would take my pettit intake Anyday over the M2.. a) more air into engine..
( so what if the air is hot when it goes in.. you got a intercooler setup for a reason. )
also... i dont need another bulky box in there.
pettit all day long ! .. sounds better anyways

I've had both and happily dumped the Pettit for the M2 CF. With the Pettit intake, you get the displeasure of a dying cow sound and a hotter running engine in a package that doesn't perform any better. While the slim and trim M2 intake is pricey, it makes the Pettit look like a POS next to it. I wouldn't bother with the opinions of others who haven't had any experience with both intakes.

I've got the older M2 aluminum box. It's a much better design than the Pettit intake and you get a more pronounced blowoff valve sound. It's not obnoxious, but definitely noticeable. There was a small fitment issue ... not with my Fluidyne radiator, but with the fan shroud on top of the radiator. I had to shave down a 4-in strip on the right fan shroud to get the box to seat properly. In retrospect, I almost wish I had waited for a CF version. The aluminum box does get hot (probably a little heat-soaked) over the course of an event.

the pettit looks GHETTO....i have it and it makes my car look like I jerry-rigged my intake.
if it didnt work so well Id get the m2. If i had to buy one new I would get the m2. I picked up my pettit before I saw the m2 box.

There is a nice stock airbox mod that performs as well as the others at a much lower cost.

thanks for all of the feedback. I agree, the pettit just doesn't look like a well made kit. It looks like more of what could be made with parts from Home Depot. It is definetly not work the money Pettit asks for it.
Anybody with a picture of the M2 box installed?
I am going with the M2.
I did the airbox mod on my last car, and if anyone is interested, I cut the holes and inserted two crevice tools made for Ridgid Wet/Dry Vacs sold at Home Depot to bring in air from underneath the car. they are the perfect length and width.

Yea I've done the same thing with my stock air box except I used aluminum tin from home air conditioning vents. Works really great!

I would get the rx7fashion box over the M2 - it fits better with other aftermarket items. It is also cheaper and you will probably get it faster.

You're going to get mixed responses on this based on what people own. Pettit's kit may not look as nice as M2's, and if all you're going for is looks, go with the M2 (although I prefer the look of Pettit's). If you want the best performance one, then get Pettit's. I talked with Cam from Pettit today about this exact thing, and he has tested stock intakes, boxes, and his, and his always comes out ontop. Basically ask yourself this...would you rather have air coming in a box and getting trapped, or have a contant supply of fresh air moving over the filters? Of course taking the top off of the M2 box helps a lot, but then why not get Pettit's then?
Oh and if anyone wanted to mention it, I currently have both intakes in my posession, and the M2 is for sale.
