M2 Stage 3 Chip swap.. NEED HELP BAD!! PLEASE!! Cali ECU to non-Cali....

Hi,

I need some help..

I recently bought a M2 stage 3 ECU from someone in SF.. I thought he told me that it was non cali ECU and when I got it, and ready to install, I found out that it was Cali ECU modded with M2 Stage 3..

I called M2 regarding to my situation and obviously they said, "no good"... After calling them few times, someone was helpful enough to tell me that the chips are the same.. in both Cali and Non-cali ECU..

I asked them to do a swap, since i already have non-cali ecu and they said they wouldn't no do such a work.. and that I need to buy their ECU reprograming.. Which I was not going to do.. If I was going to do that, I would just go Power FC..

Anyhow, Now I need help with swapping from Cali to Non-cali.. Since its the same chips.. So, can anyone done this??? Or can someone tell me if this is possible?? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

PHIL

The only real difference is that you may get a check engine light for the EGR. You can either ignore it or hook up the EGR the ECU expects. This depends on what year your car has and what year the ECU is from.

Here is what I understand. I have this information from M2 directly. Non Cali ECUs will work in Cali cars. Cali ECU will give the check engine as mentioned in the thread.

Hope this helps.

I open both non cali and cali ecu.. And looks like i just need to swap from one to the other..

here are the pics:

Non- cali ECU, non-modded

Cali ECU, Modded by M2 (stage 3)

It looks like they put some extra board and put the added chip on top.. I see which one is taken out and etc.. I just now have to find someone to solder this for me..

You could just add an EGR valve to your non-cali car, thats the only difference between the two and once thats done, you won't trigger an engine light.

nathan,

Thanks for that info.. After going thru my service manual last night.. I think I got i.. All I have to do is let a current go thru from 3J pin and 4F pin on the ECU.. Or Find my EGR connector on the car and just run a wire in between..

Apprently by the book, once the EGR valve goes bad, the current is less then 1V.. otherwise, ECU get full battery voltage.. I hope this will resolve my problem.. Thanks!

I will post my result after I try it next week!

Let us know if that works - if it does, it will be the easiest way yet to get rid of that damn EGR function sensor error code.

There are another few write-ups (that are a bit more involved) on how to defeat the EGR stuff on the ECU so it doesn't throw any codes. If your fix ends up not working, PM me and I'll send them to you (or you can search the forum - i believe they are still on here).

BrianK,

They are still on the forum.. Something to do with relay from Radio shack.. But I'm not sure what kind of relay and how they did it.. I pm'd the writer, and hope to hear from him.. Brian, do you know where your EGR switch connector on your car?? Since I have a 93 non- cali, I don't know where it is.. I think its the blue thing that that nothing is hooked on to on my car... but wanted to make sure..
