it doesnt matter hw you cut them.. some completely chop off both sides.

the bigger you cut the holes the easier it is to remove the lights once everything is assembled (through the headlights).

I can snap a pic this evening when I get home from work.

It is not hard to do, but will depend on your tools. I used an air powered cutoff wheel, it would take FOREVER to cut the rebar with a tiny dremel cutoff wheel.

That forever is more like 5-10 minutes with a dremel. Just get one of their router like bits and few of the reinforced cut off wheels and its a snap.

You shouldnt need pictures, once you have the new front end, just hold it up in front of the rebar and it will be obvious. I would cut the least amount out you can, you might get some sag in your nose if you take too much out as stated earlier in this thread. I would definitly just enlarge the holes, not cut the ends off.

That's my thread, the holes have been enlarged for the 99 spec combo lights. My Blitz FMIC requires no trimming of the bumper or the rebar.

I wouldnt recommend chopping off the ends of the rebar as I've seen some people do, it's the easy way out and can lead to the bumper cover sagging over time.

If you are installing a 99 spec front bumper I suggest spending the extra money and get the 99 rebar. I spent a few hours cutting holes for the lights on my 93 rebar and test fitting the bumper. First thing I noticed was there was no where to attach the lower mouth of the bumper like on the pre 99’s. The 99 air guide does not have the lower section like the 93-95 for the bumper. Also there was a lot of flex in the bumper skin along the top face. I’m kind of **** so I went home that night and order the 99 rebar.

I’m sure glad I did, there are several things I notice once installed. The bumper skin is a lot tighter fit on the 99 then previous models. They did away with the Styrofoam inserts and molded the rebar for a tighter fit. When I press on the top face of the bumper skin now, there is no flex. I would think over the long term it will greatly reduce bumper sag. It also has a lower loop that is shaped like the center opening with holes for the lower mouth of the bumper to attach. It uses the same funny shaped body clips as the earlier bumpers used to attach to the air guide.

As a side note, don’t buy the 99 air guide. It is just a 93+ air guide with the lower veins cut off. It even has the 93+ part number with the 99+ part number engraved next to it. Just take yours and cut the veins off at the top.

Hope this helps,
Dan

thx for the response chadwick but i actually am putting the rebar underneath a cwest front bumper. it is made of fibreglass so it will not sag. i am just curious to know if i just have to cut open the holes for the lights.

just outta curiosity do u have a pic of the 99 spec bumper. or anyone else for that matter. i would just use a little bit of spray on styro-foam if using the us spec rebar to prevent the urethane from sagging

Ahh, you resurrected this post from the dead. I would say yes, it is the same basic design.
