Looking for my old CYM...

David,
LOOOONG time no see!
I'm on my second RX-8 (the 2004 died in a head-on with a Crown Vic - she was doing 60+, I was stopped - left me with a cool Mazda logo scar).
The 2005's dead stock. No track events yet.
Needed a back seat... I've got a daughter now.
What's going on up there?

Might i suggest running a carfax on the vin? It will at least tell you the last state of ownership, and then you may be able to contact that state's DMV and get the address/phone number of the current owner? Don't know if thats possible

Hey guys! It's like a mini reunion of CYM owners/fans! I still have YELOR1, and still take her to the track to play
Good luck finding your old car Jeff, hopefully it's been taken good care of! And congrats on the daughter too!

Hey Jeff,
I bought the car from John a few years ago and sold it to a buddy of mine who's taking great care of it.
After buying it from John I did a few track events and it lost compression so I put a low mileage long block in and did away with most of the aftermarket parts. Still tracked it a couple of more times as a back up car and then sold it.
Good luck with the new 8,
Fritz

Hey Jeff!
Glad to see you're still around - another old Big Lister here . Been ages since I've seen you - I think it was at a Florida club dyno day thing, back when I had my 10th. Also, glad to hear your car is still around - thanks, Fritz! That was SUCH a sweet car.
Have fun with the '8!

The big list was an old text based email list where you could sign up for to receive EVERY email sent to the list, or in digest form (much nicer). I started on the big list back in 96 when I got my car and even then it was just as helpful as it is now.

The big difference from this forum was the age and civility of the participants. Most of the members either owned from new, or were in a very short lineage. Back in the beginning, over $20k was the norm for used FD.

One thing I miss from the big list days is knowing people's NAMES. That's one thing I dislike with the rise of the internet forums - everyone uses a cutesy screenname. When you meet someone in person, they're like "I'm Jeff." "Who?" "Oh, I'm DooDoo69'r on the RX-7 forum". "Oh, hey DooDoo!"
That's why I changed my name to my actual name.
Anyhow, the Big List was a wonderful time. Most of the material on Steve Cirian's site (http://www.scuderiaciriani.com or http://www.fd3s.net) is saved big list posts.
Biggest advantage of a list is you would typically read ALL the posts. You got to learn a lot more sometimes, and some discussions would take another tack from the original intent, turning into something that might interest you. The list was also for ALL RX-7's, so you saw a lot of everything. That's where I started learning about FD's.
But, some things stay the same - there were still flame wars, newbs with dumb questions, questions asked REPEATEDLY, old-timers leaving in a huff "because this place is going to the idiots", etc.
It did have a better sense of community - you really got to know people in a way. I still remember the names of a LOT of big list posters, and I can only tell you a handful of screen names on this forum.
BTW, if you ever want to change your screen name to something closer to your actual name, PM a mod. It's VERY simple for them to do and painless.

<- Thought about that right from the beginning Makes things more personable... allthough you never know what people use the info they find here, Vin's, Plate Numbers etc.. and your name for.... so I was somewhat cautious...
