Looking to buy
Hi guys,
I am looking to buy a family frined's 93 RX7 5sp, blue. The car is in great shape and has never been abused or even driven hard for that matter. In fact the owner tells me that the only time the thing saw redline is when I drove it last summer. The turbos have been rebuilt by the dealer and there have been no mods to the car. The body is in good shape, with a couple of dings and it may need paint soon, especially to the rear wing. Generally its in great shape with 75,000 miles. The prices for these cars seem to varry all over. What would you suggest its worth?
Thanks very much
Andrew

Gotta remember that these cars are between 12 - 9 years old now days.
This so-called 93 has a 70% chance of actually being a 92 as thats the percentage that sold in 92. Sales dropped "big time" in 93 FYI.

It depends on how much its worth with it being is that the stock motor has it ever been rebuilt. If the answer is no then you will need to have rebuilt more than likely very soon. I would say it is worth around 14-16k. I would try to bargain down lower because of the added cost you will have to have to rebuild the motor and do reliability mods. Remember that these cars get expensive very very fast. Good luck with.

I suggest its worth taking to the dealer for a compression test, and you'd better do your own boost test as well.
Just because it belongs to a family friend is no reason not to follow the suggestions found in the links for new people posted at the top of this forum.

If you want to do all of the "reliability mods" right you're looking at around $2-5k depending on what you consider "all" and how much of the work you'll be doing yourself.
For an engine rebuild you're looking at 2.5-6k depending on seals, porting, etc, and right now you'll have a wait on availability unless you know shops that have remans in stock.
Chances are if the car has been properly taken care of and driven on a regular basis over the years with proper oil and spark plug changes the motor may not have any issues (i.e. the need to get a compression test).
Good luck and keep that heavyfoot on a track
