Light Weight Reduction Tricks? FD
Hey I'm sorry if somebody already posted a thread about this but I couldn't find any. Do you guys know of any tricks that'll reduce the weight of the RX7? I don't want to strip out my interior but I do want to get rid of some of the things I don't really need that are heavy. I thought you guys might know a few tricks. Thanks in advance. O and Merry Christmas!

To add to above:
Straight through exhaust IF you have the other stuff needed to run that. An ECU upgrade, and proper fuel supply. That'll take off a lot of weight because those cats are aweful heavy!
Is this for track purposes or an "all-the-time" sorta thing? You can always take out the passenger's seat at the track to lose a bit of weight...also the hatch cover (that piece of plastic and carpet) and the panel behind the seat. That's not going to get you down a whole lot, but without major work you're not going to lose a whole lot of weight. The FD is pretty light as it is. If you want to spend money, look for the lightest pair of wheels possible, a CF hood (painted if you want) and that CF hatch. That will save a lot of weight.

go to the gym. Losing a few pounds yourself only helps yourself and the project out. Two birds with one stone, haha.
CF doors are on the yahoo auctions all the time in Japan. If you're serious, rip out all the carpeting and sound deadening stuff as well, all plastics that you dont need, etc.

buy light weight tires not those cheap heavy *** ecstas but some t1s toyo tires.
Probably 5lbs lighter per tire. Unsprung rotational weight is multiplied by 4 so if you loose 5 lbs per tire that's a 80lb reduction
After that just leave the rest alone lol.

If you haven't already done this, a downpipe should be the first thing on your list, you can drop 10-15 lbs. After that, I would go with a lightweight battery; the Odyssey PC680 is about 20 lbs lighter than the OEM battery. The stock exhaust is heavy also, but don't remove your cat unless you've got an aftermarket ECU that can compensate for the increased flow. I haven't seen weight data for the OEM seats, but you can usually cut a lot of weight by switching to fiberglass or carbon racing seats (Recaro SPG, for instance). The jack and spare tire weigh about 30 lbs combined.
