Well, the HKS is $450 + shipping new. You can get a MSD for around $150 + shipping new.

The MSD sends all of its power to the leading instead of splitting it between the leading and trailing like the HKS does. Because of this, I believe the MSD sends a stronger spark to leading where its needed since its only amping 2 plugs instead of 4. There is no need to amp the trailing anyway because the leading combusts the large majority of the fuel leaving just "clean up" work for the trailing. The stock trailing is pleanty sufficient for cleanup work.

In your case of never going past 400rwhp either will work fine. Its just up to you if you want to spend the extra $300 for the amp to be smaller.

Also, you can pick up a MSD 6a on Ebay new for $100. The MSD's are cheaper cause every car known to man can use it so it has a MUCH MUCH higher sales volume.

Do a search on ignition amp b/c I remembered reading about the MSD frying the stock coil so you'll need to run motorcycle coils and somesuch thing.

Cranes will not fry the coils. Never met a owner who had this problem and never read a first person post about it either. The only first person post about frying I ever seen were with Jacobs.

I have the Crane HI-6R which is what they recommend for under the hood placement. It is mounted on the side rail benith the throttle body with it's leads going to the area where the ignitor is. This location puts it away from the heat better and out of the way. You have to know its there to see it. The ignition coil harness was split with it also extenting to where the ignitor is. There the 2 male and two female plugs are available to easily switch between stock to Crane ignition.

I normally run with the multispark function off even though it does idle a little smoother with the AC on.
No misfire at 8000rpm at 15PSI boost running 11.5 AFRs
by wideband measurement. Have used the normal BUR9EQ plugs, and now running B9EGV.

Chuck - When you say "side rail" are you refering to the frame rail??? I'm not exactly sure where your talking about but I'm very interested. I'm running a smaller battery and putting the MSD in my battery box. It would be nice to put it somewhere else though.

It sounds like your talking about the area on the frame rail down where the steering shaft runs next too.

I've also heard of the jacob's frying the coils, but alot of problems with the msd box and crane units lasting in the car.....but that could also be attributed to the installation as well as the quality of the unit.

I will be running 2 Crane HI6 amps with 2 L-92 Coils. They can be bought for $400 ( TOTAL )not shipped fron almost anybody. There is a sale that has been on for over a year where if you purchase 1 amp you get a coil for free. 1 amp for each leading coil. I would have aready installed a set but I invested my funds else-where and am exceedingly short of money now. Hopefully soon. "Spark for the buck I can't see where you can go wrong."
