I dunno, I had a clifford on my miata. All the bells and whistles. had it for 3 years, not one false alarm. Had a nice shiney little red light thingy too. And keyless entry, which I dont know if you can do for the FD.

yeah I always had a Clifford and all the bells and whistle. I think the one I had was like 550 bucks by its self. Had auto start, window roll daown, motion sensors up the wazoo, but as a Clifford it was not user friendly. I'am just trying to get some good brands to look at. I just want the simple vibration, glass, door/trunk/hood, kind of alarm.

Try this link bud:

My Clifford has keyless entry. One problem with my alarm is the hood sensor. If I want to leave my hood open over night, I have to pull the fuse for the hood alarm sensor. If I don't, it sends a continuous signal, which runs down the battery. It's no big deal now. It was a big deal when I couldn't figure out why I was getting a low/dead battery. The installers thought the "brain" was bad, twice. Clifford warranteed both brains that were returned. They replaced them amazingly quickly, with no questions asked.

Clifford has taken good care of me.

Zero,

You can go on ebay...they have a bunch of them everywhere. I've ordered a set of my Integra and it was easy to install.

My alarm was on the FD when I got it, so I can't tell you how the keyless entry works. The door locking mechanism also locks my doors when I turn the ignition key to the position where the car runs. It pisses off my wife because she can't figure out how to get out of the car when it is running. I suppose I could tell her, but what fun would that be??

I have a CompuStar on my car too...great alarm, turbo timers, nice features, etc - horrible customer service though so be careful.

I have a LYNX 2000 alarm that I got from www.asianwolf.com It's one of the LCD pager ones, where the pager beeps when the alarm goes off. Very cool to impress the chicks with. The car pictured on the alarm is an FD, which makes it even cooler. It has the full range of alarm goodies, keyless entry, dual stage shock sensors, remote start (not hooked up on mine), hood, door and trunk alarms, and you can add all the glass sensors you want.

How much did they charge you guys to install your keyless entry systems in your FDs? I was quoted at ~$400 for a basic system by the leading chains (Circuit City and Best Buy). Both claimed that it is a pain in the *** to install an actuator, etc, etc.

I suggest you get a J-spec/Euro passenger side actuator off a FD. Do not use any other aftermarket actuator as they are known for snapping the cable.

I am interested here as well. Also, how difficult would it be to install the Lnyx system?

Not needed, the best way is to set up the actuator so it hits the physical lock inside the door. If you do use it on a cable it will snap, but this method has been used for a long time and works great. It's also a lot cheaper and easier to set up then getting the J-Spec actuator.
A search under "keyless entry" should bring up a thread with pictures on how the actuator is setup.

I don't know about you guys, but alarms only last 3-4 years on my car. first one was a clifford, 2nd to 4th are crimestoppers. I have no idea why alarms only last this short.

Well, I've had my Clifford alarm for 14 years... actually out lasted my first car. Had it installed on my Escort GT as a graduation present and when that car went, had Circuit City reinstall it in my Probe. I love lifetime warranties

How much did Circuit City charge you to install it on yours?

The price of the first install was included with the alarm, but it was $100 for Circuit City to take it out of my old car and reinstalled it in my new.

My favorites are Alpine, Kenwood and Ungo. Basically alarms make noise and add luxury features such as keyless entry and leaving the dome light on after you close the doors. As far as best alarm, it should be smart enough to prevent false alarms. Add a manual kill switch and theft recovery system. Pay extra to hide the horn and the brain.
