Koyo rad install
#27
I installed the SR ultimate rad on my car about 1 1/2 years ago, its really a good upgrade. You have to remember to lift the front end of the car enough to remove the stock rad, the SR will only fit from above engine compartment. I had to remove battery, battery tray intercooler and duct also intake box, just take your time and do it right the lower rad mounting tabs just have to be bent back more because the rad is thicker.I also use the M2 CF intake I didnt trim it to fit the rad shrowd I used duct tape to seal it inside the space between the rad and intake box.I also used a/c sealing foam around the edge of radiator, on the highway or long cruise my temps stay at a solid 180F no matter how hot it gets, in traffic it varys usually between 185-207F thats when miata switch kicks fans on.

I dont know how much more the SR rad cools over the Fluidyne, but living in year round heat of S.Fla with a black FD I went will the largest rad I could get better safe than sorry. My temps are way down no matter how hot it gets out side, its very effective plus with that extra water capacity youre motor is just running alot more cooler and safer.

Well Im glad everybody has been having nice temps with the koyo, But my temps suck ***!!! Not to mention
the Greddy 3 row is not helping things either. I installed the front mount and the radiator at the same time so I cant narrow the problem down to one or the other...
But it sure looks pretty

You shouldnt have to cut the intercooler duct, mine fit with no problem sounds like the rad needs to go lower.Remember the radiator brackets on the bottom need to be pryed open this will drop youre rad a little. The only interferance I had was with the stock intercooler hitting the fan shroud.

I mounted the Koyo with the Pettit cold air intake. One thing I did that no one mentioned was take a 1/4" off the plastic piece at the top of the radiator, (not a big issue) was checking for rub points and noticed this piece being pushed forward when the radiator was seated all the way down. I also had to trim aprox. 1/4' inch of the bottom of the Pettit seperator plate (heat shield) what ever you want to call it, so the hood would close without deflecting the hood. I also had to test fit several times befor I got it in the way I liked it. All work was done from the top as far as removing the stock Rad. and installing the Koyo.

kOYO with
YELLOW BIRD.....Hey bro I've got the above set up....I had ato custom make some mounting brackets so that the radiator would fit securely. I had to slighty bend the bottom brackets that came with the GT intercooler (the brackets with about 1"holes with rubber cushion). I also had to fabricate two brackets that mount to the mounting holes on top of the radiator. If standing in front of your FD and looking down at the radiator the radiator almost looks vertical. Its at about a 85 degree angle. I actually only had to drill one hole on the left top mounting bracket (facing the FD). On the right top bracket there is already a mounting hole there I just used a small bolt and nut and secured the brackets to the car. The hole that I'm talking about is to the far right about 5-6" down from the left top side of the head light cover. Oh I also have my battery relocated to the rear passenger storage bin. I you still have your battery in the stock location you won't be able to see that hole I'm talking about its hidden by the battery. But I suggest going to your local hardware store and getting some 1/8"x1" flat steal rods (they usually come in 3ft lenghts, get a small vice (will help with bending the brackets, and a set of jack stands for the front strongly suggested to help ease installation. Its going to take a few test fit trials, but don't frustrated you don't want to bend any of the fins on the radiator or your $1200.oo dollar intercooler....!!!! It took me about 4hrs taking my time and being very carefull. And I'm a experienced mechanic. Oh also on the bottom brackets I mounted the brackets to the long bracket that runs across the FD (it was used to support the stock IC its about 3" wide and about 3ft long, u can't miss it. There are already holes there towards the ends of the bracket that you can use. Well I think I covered everything if not let me know, be happy to hep out.....Thanks...Tony

I have the fluidyne and PFS intercooler.. But haven't tried to put in yet.. I am hoping to do this pretty soon.. I am doing vac lines, new down, cat back, polishing manifold, upper intake polished, efini y, Pfs intake , pfs ic...the whole thing right now..
As I see it right now, I don't think Fluidyne will give any problems.. But who knows?? I did some research before and I was told that I shouldn't have any problems.. So far only problem I had with Fluidyne was that I had to shave some plastic off of the fan molds.. One of the hose didn't clear it.. Well, at this point my goal is memorial day weekend.. hope I could get all done by then.. All i have now is put the stuff in the car..
But if anyone else has done this, please let us know.. Since my rad is brand new and have not installed.. I could return it..
