Got mine today! Beautiful!

Nice workmanship, and two outlets. One for the airpump and another for ?...

So the big question? Air pump or no air pump?

Thanks Derek / Corksport!!!

Can't wait for the dyno results! I don't suppose either of you would be willing to see if the car passes smog...

If Atila or Stock does a dyno run, they can borrow my Border Racing for comparison.

got mine yesterday... wanted to take some pics but i was too lazy. ill put it on next weekend. this thing is FREAKIN LIGHT!!! someone else put theirs on first and tell be if you get boost creep and blow your motor. ive had too many motor problems recently to deal with anything more going wrong!

i wish i could do a before and after dyno, but i dont want to fork out the cash. maybe i will do a few g-tech runs but its so innacurate that it may be a waste of time.

oh yeah, what the hell is that 2nd tube for? -heath

Same here, 7racer....I guess I will be getting mine tomorrow or Friday since I am the group buyer furthest away from The Pacific northwest.

If you guys read through the info posted earlier in this thread, the two tubes are discussed. One goes to the standard air pump tube, the other goes to a sensor that the later Jspec cars had that we don't....there should be a blockoff plate enclosed to cover that one up.

Don, everything I have read to date on this cat indicates that it is a direct swap for the stock ceramic cat and uses the air pump like stock. I am not sure the verdict is in on whether you can run it without the air pump though.

Here is my dyno run from October of last year at .80 bar.
Notice 362.4 Nm = 266.5 Torque (ft-lbs). Due to cost of dyno time, I only made one run.

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2292031

Here is my Tech Edge wideband grouped installation photos. #'s 1-2 show the tapped sensor position used before the cat.

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2248553

Don, Like Supercell said. The KS cat is a direct swap, Very easy. One other note. The exhaust gaskets are much better quality than the gaskets that came with my Racing Beat exhaust!

I have a date on the 29th of July for emissions. I look forward to see other members dyno and emissions test soon

Mine finally came in today....these things are simply amazing. I find it amazing that they can weave the honeycomb in a triple swirl pattern like that. I can also see why it flows better - I can see clearly through the honeycomb to the other side of the pipe. Hope it works as good as it looks!

so is everyone accounted for that paid for one of these?

im going to install mine tomorow (i hope) and ill take some pics... you know what i cant sleep so ill just take some now.... but ill take more after it is installed tomorow. anyway, im wondering if anyone has theirs on yet, and if so, if you have experienced any boost creep. i do not feel like blowing my motor tomorow since i dont have a boost gauge.

hmmm you know what, before and after sound would be good... although i dont have a camera. maybe i can track one down... can anyone host? -heath

I'm on the edge of failing emmissions with my 2-year old high-flow cats (pre and main) so I may get one of these.

But a major concern of mine is noise. I like the sound of my car with the two high flow cats a lot. When you guys get these on can you comment on the sound quality pre- and post-installation? Compared with what you had before (another high-flow, straight-pipe, resonator, etc)?

Also - while the welds and pipes are very pretty - I would probably do what I've done already, which is wrap the pipe at least up to the cat body. With This cat you could even run the wrap all the way over the cat - any major issues with that? Yeah, I know it's not pretty, but it IS under the car.

well i think i can feel some boost creep but i dont have a gauge so i cant tell for sure. it feels/sounds pretty good and the air seems cleaner than w/ the stock cat.

unfortunatly it did not fix my overheating problem... so im really stupmed as to what to check for now.

PS also for some reason if i put my hand in back of the exhaust, it doesnt seem to flow as much as before... although it feels (power wise) like its flowing better hmmmm

Hey RotorMotor,

Not to be a D*CK, but I don't see a jack stand in the front area of the car, only in the rear. I just see the front of it supported by your jack.

If you need an extra one, I will send you one! I wouldn't want to see you squished!

Attila

RotorMotor,

Was the sound level higher than before, or was it nearly the same?

supercell: nearly the same but a little more throaty/deep at wot & high rpms

atihun: yeah i know i was being stupid today... i have at least 6 jackstands around the garage but was being stupid and lazy... this was the 3rd time i had the car up today (there was one exhaust bolt that was IMPOSSIBLE to get out and i gave up and called a muffler shop. no shops in the area were free so i decided to give it one last go. (i was using all the proper stands before but was so fed up at the end i just got lazy). thank you for caring, and i will be more careful from now on... it would be a vrey very bad thing if the jack happend to fail. frustration is no excuse for lower safety standards (i think this applies to driving fast as well ). anyway, thanks for looking out !

rotormotor: airtools and/or big mean breaker bars are your friend. Safety first, always - got a jackstand story, but can't tell it as no one would believe hehe.

Rotormotor,

Thanks for the pics. Do you know what the diameter of the core section is (including the outer casing)?

The canister is 4.25 in diameter by 9 in length. The piping is 3in diameter.

Can't wait to put this on with the new engine! Hope someone will take it in for a smog real soon!

I want to note that the air pump on GM f-body cars runs only on cold start and for less than 4 minutes. The C5 vette has a similar setup. The new C6 apparently does not have an airpump at all. I hope that this reduction in the need for air injection is due to advancements in cat technology, that can be used for the FD as well, and not changes to extrinsic parts.

Great thread!
I was in Indianapolis for the USGP two weekends ago, and the night before qualifying (friday night) they had a ferrari show downtown Indianapolis. I was talkin to a guy while he was gettin his 355 Spyder ready to go home (taking the roof off, letting it warm up), and i asked him how he knew when it was warmed up enough. He said that it was when his air pump shut off, and if you listened real closley (you had to because he was running with extremely short straight-through mufflers) you could hear it hiss, so if Ferrari was shutting off it's air pumps after about 5 minutes in 1993 (the year of the 355 Spyder), then today's cat technologies should allow you to run the air pump for a short time or not at all.
