JUST PASSED SMOG w/ 107K!
Just wanted to let everyone know that I just passed smog in Southern California!
The car is relatively stock with the exception of a DP and PowerFC; and other mods below.
The engine and turbos have 107K, original. I still run the car with 13psi on the turbos.
The only thing I did is put the stock ECU back in, ran a half tank with CCR Guaranteed Smog Pass, new plugs, cleaned the K&N, and new oil.
Wohoo!
But, I believe that a coolant O-ring is slightly damaged. The cooling system is getting combustion gases and overflowing into the overflow tank. Most of the coolant gets sucked back in but not all of it, and it doesn't seem like I am burning any.
I think I remember what may have caused it. Before the last smog check 2 years ago, I had the Air Pump off but I put it on for the check. That was when the coolant issue started; about 10K ago. Since then I've left the pump on.
The cause I think was when the Air Pump was off, the ACV pipe got rusted because it was not working correctly with the Air Pump line plugged. When I put the Air Pump back on, I think that some of the particulates (rust) entered the engine and damaged a coolant O-ring.
The car still drives great, 16 mmHg vacuum, pulls strong at 13 psi., just gets air into the cooling system and the engine / coolant temps go up faster without the fans on.
Now I will have time to remove the engine and rebuild it myself!

Glad to hear you made it past the ****'s - they didn't flip about the missing pre-cat?

He didn't even say anything. I don't think he knew about it.
I recommend that people take their cars to a test only even if they don't need to. This is because they do not service the cars there so they have no interest in failing you just to make some extra money in repairs.
Also I noticed, but too late, that I could have smogged the car with the PowerFC. All I think I needed to do was swap the plugs for the ABS light to the Check Engine light. (The check engine light doesn't work with the PowerFC).
I think that the car can pass with the PowerFC if tuned correctly.

Hello-
Sounds good! One little thing, though...
... you mean't 16 inHg, not 16 mmHg, right? :-).
Take care,
Shad

It is real thick, but it's a fuel additive. Supposedly cleans out carbon, fuel injectors, etc. It's "guaranteed" to pass your car if you have all of the required smog equipment on the car. If you don't pass, they will pay you double the cost of the item.
This product does not help pass a car that has not been maintained, relatively good condition O2 sensor, and all the other parts. However, if the engine is in good shape, it helps it run more efficiently.
To tell you the truth, the car ran much smoother after about half way through the tank. There was a noticeable difference in the way the car runs after this treatment.
I usually use the Chevron Techron additive at each oil change. The Techron also cleans the system, however the CCR seemed to do a much better job.
PS. I bought this product based on others experience, but mainly because this was a 'Hail Mary' act to get the car to pass smog. I was really worried it wouldn't pass with so many miles on it.

My FD passed Cali smog with flying colors too. I have a catback but the smog guy didnt give a rats *** (he likes RX-7s). The catback is the only mod. It passed by itself with no problems and no additives

Heya Jason,
Miss Cali? Right now it's about 70; brrrrrr. I'm gonna do the porting myself; the neighbors are going to 'love' me!
Oh, and the product is CRC, not CCR. And I feel like I'm driving blindly without the PowerFC in the car; I don't know what's going on!
Wan, have you thought about a downpipe? Good reliability mod for the car out here in SoCal. But I guess then, the modifications start and there is no end!

My local test only station spotted my downpipe but said they would let it slide too as long as I pass the sniffer. I think the majority of places out here, even test only, aren't looking to give you a hard time, they just want to make sure you car is running clean.

congrats atihun
....BTW, thanks for answering the multiple messages I sent you via PM and email about your product around 1 1/2 months ago. Must be you have a ton of interest and don't want to sell your product that bad

I was actually very surprised, but I should point out they didn't check that closely until I failed the sniffer. The tech said he thought the dp was making the difference, but if I could get it to pass without the precat he would give me a break. They do have a book that says how many cats it should have. The HKS dp looks extremely stock too. In any case, I just gave the car to my mechanic and he took it back for a retest after "decarbonizing" it. Not sure what he did but it passed pretty decently (I just barely failed in the first place). Interestingly, I asked him about putting special stuff in the gas tank and he didn't seem to believe in it, thinking it would only make the numbers worse.

I heard some guys putting Alcohol in the tank to pass emissions. Can i use alcohol on the piston engines too? My friend has a 90 eclipse gsx and it's been runing a little rich. So it failed the emissions, So he was thinking of using alcohol in it. Any comments?
