The Police work 24/7. It's never too late to report a crime or an automibile accident. Just my .02. Good Luck.

Get a police report and all her info
My rear end incident on 12/10 of last year was over 2k and my damage was not as severe as yours appears to be.

BTW,

If you told the girl that you would handle it between yourselves and you do decide to put a report in, you might want to give her a call to let her know so that she can put a report in too.

This way it won't look like you were trying to submarine her and she might appreciate not getting an inquiry later in the week from a state official asking why she did not report it.

Yeah, I know about the police working 24/7 but everyone is tired and isn't in the mood to deal with it tonight. I don't think it will be a problem as long as I get everthing straight first thing tomorrow. (and believe me I intend to). I've got to get up for school tomorrow and get up earlier to take care of this mess so I'm going to go to bed. Hopefully I won't be too achy tomorrow. Thank you for all the advice guys, I'll keep yall posted.

I was definitely going to call her before I filed the report, that's just another reason to wait til tomorrow morning.

I'm going to bed thanks everyone!

Why is her insurance already high, is she a bad driver?

If she has caused accidents before, maybe she needs to lose her license before she kills someone.

You could be doing her a favor, possibly even preventing a future death, by reporting this incident.

Not everyone deserves to drive, it's a privilege, not a right. It's just like not everyone should own a gun, her V6 Mustang is a 3,000 lb weapon and bad things can happen if she doesn't control it properly.

Sorry to hear that bud, I just got rear-ended last weekend. Damage to my car was pretty minimal but the initial quote (paint/bumper repair/black plastic replacement) came out to ~1k. Yours looks like you may have some styrofoam crush damage as well and possibly bumper support damage.

You guys walked away saying that you were going to settle it between yourselves - take the car to your friend's place and have him look over it real quick. If it's strictly rear bumper damage then you're looking at about 1k to repair the bumper. If the styrofoam is crushed or damaged then the repair bill goes up pretty quick from there. Add to that your exhaust - 1.5k minimum. Give the girl a call, ask her if she can realistically pay 2k off, if she says no tell her you have no choice but to report it and go through insurance.

My guess is she'll say she can't cover it. Honestly - the best thing to do would be to go through insurance. No repair is cheap and she's going to be out serious cash to fix both cars. But at least give her the heads up so she doesn't get in any deeper as it is.

Bummer on the accident. The good thing is it looks very mininal. New cover, exhaust and maybe a bumper reinforcement (which is a bolt on part). All told she'll be surprised it'll be a $1500-2000 repair but it is a simple fix.

if you are going to get your oem bumber and paint it, it would cost up to 2,000-4,000.

mind as well get the c-west body kits or a after market bodykit and paint it...

I just got my first quote from one of the better body shops around here. $2030, you guys were pretty much dead on. I've got 3 more appointments set up over the next few days with the top three local shops, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens and how much the price varies.

I talked to my girlfriend's dad who is an insurance agent about not getting her insurance info and he basically said that if need be it could all be looked up if her paying out became a problem. He told me to just stay on top of it giving her constant updates and such.

I talked to the lady who hit me this morning about everyone's estimate of about $2000 and she said she still wanted to pay it out of her pocket, even if it did cost that much. We'll wait and see what happens when I drop off the actual quotes.

I'll keep you guys updated on what happens. Thank you for all the help. Here are some day time pics

ALSO: They estimator guy at the body shop said all the foam behind the bumper will need to be replaced as well.

where some bolts came through the bottom of the bumper

crushed exhaust

Also my exhaust needs to be replaced, its crushed in at the bend and the estimator guy found a hole in the muffler itself. Looks like i'll be replacing the Greddy SP with a Racing Beat Dual. =D

I would have called the cops.
Here's my little personal experience:

Was driving my ex wife's 240sx. Was at a street waiting to make a left turn. Bitcho comes flying (in the rain) talking on her cell phone, and slams into the back of the 240. We decided to move the cars over to my house. we called the police. They came over. They could not right up a report because the vehicles were moved from the accident scene, and that we will have to take it up with the insurance companies

Crock of **** if you ask me, but what can I do. The insurance company didn't want to pay for it because there was no official report. The bitcho lady didn't want to pay for it out of her pocket, either. We basically had no case since there was no official report, and we had to pay for it out of our pocket.

Next time someone hits you, don't be sympathetic about their driving condition. If they claim their insurance rates are high enough as it is, then that should ring a big brass bell in your head indicating this idiot DESERVES it!!

Thank you for the info flybye. It sucks not knowing this stuff before everything happens. I guess I can just hope that everything works itself out.

Check the exhaust all the way up, including the turbos. I hit my exhaust tip and bent it slightly. Didn't think much of it until I went to remove the DP and the friggin studs were bent.
Like others have said, call 911 on the spot if something like this ever happens again. No matter how minor the accident.
A friend of mine was hit very lightly. His car had only scuff marks, but the other car had a sizable dent. He agreed to just let it go since it was the other drivers fault and he didn't have any damage. As soon as he left, the other driver called the cops and claimed he hit her and took off.

Alright 1st to 3rd, I'll drive my car on some ramps tomorrow to check all the piping. The guy at the body shop i went to today said it looked like the bend in the piping took all the impact, but it's really hard to see undereath the car without a lift. I've got a few more appointments lined up to get estimates and of course I'll keep everyone posted.

ALSO: Did yall know the stock exhaust costs $1500 to replace! The lady is lucky I didn't still have that thing on.

Don't want to throw gas on a fire, but does anyone know if it is possible that the impact tp the exhaust could have cracked/damaged the exhaust manifold/turbos? And if so, is there a way to check?

Let me know what to look for / have the body shop look for tomorrow. It seems like my car is burning more oil than it was yesterday, but more likely than not it's me being overly paranoid. I'll definitely check it out tomorrow.
