i had an alignment done on my evo once, i get in it afterward and the PFC commander showed 24psi!!! the boost was set to 21psi. i then looked at the boost controller and THE ******* TURNED IT WAY WAY UP! i looked back at the logs and they made like 10 runs on 24 psi which was on stock fuel at the time! i went the the manager and showed him everything. he said i probably did it, i threatened to go to the news or cops, and get a lawyer, he then refunded all the payment i made. i also charged them for having mitsubishi run a compression test (which came out normal, thank God for the 4g63 strength). the logger also showed the runs were in 2nd gear because the cars speed which is good that they were not trying launches. they fired 3 people over that. i had my lawyer freind call them about an hour afterward and threaten suit if they didnt fire them. luckely i never had any other troubles with the car.

Wow, I've heard of "joyriding", but that takes the cake! Glad to hear you did something about it. Those ******** should have been fired for something like that. Unfortunately, they probably got hired back the next day...

I always clearly state that they are not to test drive my car for any reason, and make sure they write it down on the work order. I've had a couple people seem to take offense to that, in which case I take my business elsewhere. I also call ahead and get an appointment so I can wait while they do the work. I usually work my way back to the rack and BS with the tech anyways.

Aside from alignments, my car only sees good rotary shops like RP and PFS. I trust these guys, so obviously I don't bother telling them not to drive the car.

well, i also knew a guy who worked there that told me exactly the 3 guys that took it out... trust me, they didnt get hired back at first i felt bad about that, but then i remembered their lack of respect, and felt overjoyed to teach them a lesson. i felt like i wanted to burn each of their cars down at the time.

When a shop messes up just say Better Business Bureau, that normally gets them to cooperate .

I got my car back today with 4 miles on it. That's a little much to check out an alignment, but luckily I put in my old stock coupler that has a big hole in it. Can you say 0psi? I'm glad I did that. That old coupler will be my insurance policy against shops until I install my PFC

I do pretty much the same thing... Some of those shops think that I am crazy to sit there and wait on them to finish.. I try to get back to chat with the tech but now some shops are really strict on this for liability reasons... I have to admit that I did not realize that I could pull down the rpm limiter so far. I will definately be doing this in the future rare occasion that my car goes to a shop...

Damn, I knew I shouldn't have thrown out that cracked stock coupler years ago!

The shop guy that was "testing" your car was probably wondering "what's that loud 'whooshing' noise? I thought these RX-7s were supposed to be fast..."

Glad I'm getting a Power FC soon so that I can set the rev-limiter.

Shops are pretty rediculous now-a-days. A friend of mine got his truck back with a mcdonalds bag (with trash in it) in the back seat, the whole interior smelled, and some other things were off.

One time I was at a mazda dealership (they also dealt with other manuf.) in the tech dept. trying to get some warranty work done on my MSP. As I was standing there going over my car with the head tech (complete moron) another tech storms out of the shop area, gets into a suburban parked directly in front of my car, slams the door, neutral drops it and burns out powersliding out of the inspection bay. I looked at the tech (actually the head of the tech department) who I was talking to and asked if that was his car or a customers car. He kind of had a sick look on his face and muttered that he wasn't sure (bullshit, he was his boss, he knew). I then asked if that was something that happened often, the tech then joked around with me about how the guy was a hothead etc etc etc (real smart, dumbass, like I was his buddy or something). I promptly ended my conversation with him (which consisted of him telling me things about my car which were flat out not true) and got the **** out of there, and I have no problem telling everyone I know to NEVER go to that dealership.

so I heard this asked a couple times but noone answered, how do you set the rev limiter on the PFC? That is definitly something everyone should do when taking their car to a shop, unless there is a reason not to.

Its not real hard, you just go to the settings screen, and the option in the bottom right is rev/idle and then you set the rev limiter to 3k....

Of course you probably already know this but Japanese people would get chewed out big time by there manager or fired, if any of this crap i'm hearing went on. They have a totally different view on respect and customer service. I wish I could get my service done there especially with the way Nissan America is.

To the topic poster: No your not paranoid, would you like some weird person hanging out with your gf and doing things that made you want to punch them.

Let's just hope that the idiots at the shop can't figure that out as well. I mean, it is pretty easy to change it.

I would be extremely surprised if they did.

First, they would have analyze and deduce that you set a rev limiter on them.

Second, you would have to have someone that actually knows what a PFC is and who actually knows how to use it. It's not common knowledge even on this site (gauging by how many people ask power FC related q's).

I'm not saying that it can't happen I'm just saying it would be extremely rare.

My PFC hasn't arrived yet, so don't crucify me on this... Can't you just remove the commander after setting the rev limiter? How difficult would that be?

I don't see why not, but If you have the commander in a holder and have the wire hidden behind all the plastic panels and carpet than it can be a pain in the *** to do.

This was a while ago but I tried the rev limiter @3k on my PFC after reading this thread...I pulled out and stomped the pedal down, all I remember seeing 0% INJ DUTY on the PFC before my head was about 1/2" away from the steering wheel. Next time I take my car in I hope they do go joyriding so maybe they will get a concussion from faceplanting the wheel.

If you use Datalogit to reduce the rev limit, you can lock out the commander so that it can't be changed w/o and laptop and datalogit software. Chances are if they have those, they've got an FD and won't feel the need to mess with it.

I wouldnt think they would know, Im sure they could figure it out, but my first thought would be that the car was broken or something

very true and I think this is how the most everyone has thiers set up. Although maybe it could be pulled out of the holder and placed under the dash by golve box... Just depends on how you have your wiring run...

And that would be classic them smashing thier head into the steering wheel...
