JHB Performance Oil Metering Conversion Kit
#26
I have installed the rotary aviation adapter on my car with factory twins. It was not too bad of an install but it puts the pump right next to the turbo's oil line. I felt this was too risky and I happened to have some exhaust heat wrap so I wrapped the oil line and over the oil metering pump. I was not able to keep the oil metering pumps factory heat shield either.
All and all I figured the heat wrap would do the job just fine since my buddy who has it on his down pipe can drive around for an hour and still rest his hand on his down pipe with this on there.

pics as promised
First pic is of the fitting on the OMP with the OMP installed. You can see the clear tygon hose coming from the top of the picture and how small the barb section of the fitting is (btw I believe the fitting is actually a cut brake bleeder). The mess of sealant around the base of the fitting isn't for sealing it's just to keep the fitting from rotating and coming loose.
Second pic is of the supplied reservoir. It slides down onto a brass mount that I bolted to my intake heat shield. I bolstered the heat shield with 2 steel brackets (one in the lower left of the pic tied to the body and the other under the brass mount and wrapping under the reservoir to a bolt hole left over from the OEM intake box). The tygon hose just comes up under the reservoir attaching to a nipple on the bottom.
If you guys want any other specific pictures just let me know.

Update: So the 2 cycle oil started disappearing even when the car was off (assuming leak, but we couldn't see anything). To fix it, I picked up a used OMP from Fritz and drilled/tapped the OMP housing to accept a 1/8" NPT to 1/4" nipple Russell fitting. We then swapped out the OMP (pita btw). This time I used a 1/4" teflon-PFA hose wrapped in a coolant hose (for heat protection). We also cut the plastic nipple off the bottom of the reservoir and replaced it with a metal 1/4" hose barb from home depot with a rubber washer for sealing. I had a persistent leak at the plastic barb that no clamp seemed to fix. Finally the cap on the reservoir has "relaxed" from the heat of the engine bay and is letting 2 cycle sneak out of the cap when it splashes up. Which is annoying so I'm trying to find a replacement cap.
In short, there is now no part of the original kit that I haven't replaced or modified.

While I can say that the reservoir was certainly leaking at the nipple (most likely due to a seam in the plastic along the nipple), I can NOT say that the leak by the block was due to the fitting that they gave me (it could have been the OMP o-ring as well). But I got to tell you, I feel much better with the larger Russell fitting since I had space for two clamps instead of one lousy zip tie. Be careful using a longer fitting though. If you place the fitting in a more vertical orientation than about 45 degrees then you run the risk of the fitting hitting the thermostat housing.

A heads up guys the plastic coolant reservoirs are NOT designed for the heat or to contain oil. They will deform and the plastic will degrade over time and leak especially at the seams.
I bought a used 2 stroke oil tank used on an dirt bike or ATV (I dunno - I bought... like...4 tanks until I found one I liked and was big enough) on eBay for about $5 and fitted it to my system (and sorry guys I used the RA OMP adapter)
