jdm has less leg room due to the backseat. There were no horsepower differences until the 99 spec turbos were introduced. i believe they delivered about another 30bhp, making 285bhp

i think there is something in the facts. Also the UIM is different. downpipe is "smashed" towards the turbos to allow it to fit. plus many more

my friend has a mr2 jdm and my other friend has a z32 and the jdm models are much quicker then the usdm. i was jus wonderin if the internals were different bcus of japans different laws and regulations/restrictions created more quicker cars... i raced my friend fd3s and his usdm was slower and my top end i ended up pulling on him. hes prettty much stock intake and exhaust. i know there are many variables and conditions but i jus wanted someone to shed some truth about this...

Power was not the same until 1999. 1992 - 1995 Saw 255 Ps, turbos were changed in 1996-1998 Giving 265 Ps, then came the 1999 HT-12s that gave 280 Ps.

Right Hand Drive Rx-7s have their speedometers in Kilometers vs Miles.

Left Hand drive US Rx-7s saw the introduction of a passenger airbag in 1994. Right hand drive Rx-7s saw it in 1999.

Left Hand drive US Rx-7s never came with the option of a back seat

Left Hand drive Rx-7s do not have the steering column right in the way of the downpipe (an advantage actually). That is part of the reason the downpipes are "squished".

Japanese Right Hand Drive Rx-7s did not have a pre-catalyzer.

1996 Saw the introduction of OEM upgrades, and the further evolution of the Rx-7's design and performance, the major redesign and reworking came in 1999.

I'm pretty sure you'll find the JDM rx7's in 92 ran 270hp from factory. There is different porting then the US rx7's which ran 255hp i believe. And yes the down pipe on the stock TT setup is less efficient because the steering column is in the way.

My Rx7 is JDM and she's stock right now. I plan on getting her on a dyno to see what i'm starting with.

91 - 95 (model years not actual years.) came with a factor 255 bhp, same as the american version.

ya well my friend up in japan livin/workin for a company in canada whos ships/imports jdm cars and tells me why the usda and jdm cars are diff. bcus back in the 90's japan had a law where cars l;ike these not exceed more then 300hp due to the lack of emisiion andstrange law that police cars there cant go more them 160km. so they underrated them...

as long as its pre 99 you "SHOULD" be ok... after '99 the vacuum routing had a "black box" and was simplified IIRC

You'd be pretty wrong. The only substantial difference from 92-95 is the US RX-7s have a catalytic element in the downpipe.

Wowo some of you Americans think you are the only ones living in North America, or are just so ignorant. Canada, yea the guys up north, are in KM/H aswell. Now you know... if you didn't already. Oh yea.. and we drive on the LH side as well, just to clarify.

Sorry, that was an honest mistake. I should have stated Right Hand Drive Japan-Spec Rx-7s.

Now, let's get over that.

it was called the Gentleman's agreement and the limit for power was 206kw (276hp)

and by Japanese law all cars are limited to 180km/h, 111.8 mph. Aftermarket mods remove speed limiters and so on so, obviously tuners had the upper hand, but it wasnt long before the Japanese police had tuned cars for their own and so on.

Its kinda like US Crown Vic, are speed limited to 115 by the stock ECU, but the "Police Package" which was coded by VIN, unlocked the limiter, advanced the timing and so on to deliver more power and allow the car past its 115 mph lock.

as for the Series 6 and Series 7 FD3S they were 255bhp and 265bhp respectively, the only FD3S possibly underated was the Series 8, which was rated to 276bhp.

Stop selectively reading. He said only the S8 FDs were underrated. That is the 99-02 RX-7s were rated at 276hp, but they clearly had signifigantly more power from the factory.

The S6 (92-95) were all rated at 255bhp no matter what country they were sold in and they all made 255bhp no matter what country they were sold in.

The S7 (96-98) were rated at 265hp, and again they made 265bhp.

You pulling up top over your friend doesn't make much sense, since the JDM FDs were supposed to come with shorter gears. 4.30 gearing vs the 4.10 in the US manuals. Additionally, as mentioned, the JDM FDs were all speed limited at 115mph. If your car keeps going past 115, then it's been modified in some way. Either it has an FCD, a reprogrammed ECU or it's had the wiring harness snipped.

How much boost are you making?

And most likely you have a modified ECU or a reflashed ECU.

I thought my GT-R had a limiter, but i found out i can go past 180 km. (Don't need to ask how i found out). The ECU has been reflashed.

People I'm not doubting anyone's intelligence on the matter! these machines are very fascinating and still new to me! One of my good friends has been researching these cars for years, he's had a couple of them for the last five or six years now. He convinced me to buy a RHD because they have more aggressive porting and 15hp more! that's not really a big difference! But this information is what he passed on to me.

Not to mention i got her for about 10k less and half the KM's of a LHD.

But i did say i was going to get her on a dyno to see exactly how much under rated she is! I did not say she was rated 270hp from factory, (Said) i was sure she came with 270hp! I could have been misinformed! We'll find out soon enough.

But once i get her on a dyno i'll post the results!

well just because you have a 300km/h speed doesnt mean you car will DO 300 km/h especially with a stock ECU... its a limited to 180 km/h, 111.8 mp/h.

ok im sorry, but firstly, RHD has nothing to do with port size, nor does JDM have anything to do with the actual porting.

First off, i know that in Canada your allowed to import 15 years or older, which puts your cut off limit at 1993, which means you have an S6 FD3S, which means you make a FACTORY horsepower rating of 255BHP, NOT WHP, FD's have about 18% drivetrain loss which means that with a COMPLETELY stock car, your looking at AROUND 220whp.

Modifications CAN bring it to 270 WHP but remember THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHEEL HORSEPOWER AND CRANK HORSEPOWER.

Secondly, with a STOCK ECU, your only going to be looking at a few upgrades before you set your car in the danger zone for fuel. the ECU is meant to handle STOCK levels of boost, fuel, and air intake, as you start to mod the car, it will require more and more fuel in order to handle the upgrades. Typically, an Intake and Exhaust are the only mods that can really be done before you need to start thinking about an aftermarket ECU, and even then your going to be looking at boost creep and spike due to the opening of the air flow into and out of the engine.
