It's time for a new car...what should I replace my beloved FD with?

Another vote for the G35. Damn nice cars, and easy to super charge. And with a G35 you won't get ricers bothering you as much as you would a Z06. I wouldn't daily drive something not from this century.

they arn't really leagl in the us and in Canada they are only legal if they are 15 years old. there are tons of gts-t's, gts-4's gtr's running around my city .
so in the states they cost a pretty penny if they are made legal .

Introduce a good set of heads (and make the comparison monetarily fair) and the Z06 will make 450 rwhp all day long. Power to weight ratio, gearing, aero = Z06 wins easily.
The G35 is a nice car, but if he wants to go fast, the G35 is not the platform to start with.
To the OP, I seriously considered an NSX after I sold my FD. At the end of the day, it was too slow and making it even as fast as a stock Z06 was going to be an expensive proposition.

If I got a G35 I don't think I'd do more than lower it with some nice wheels. It wouldn't be worth it to supercharge it. IMHO. The NSX would be killer. But I think I'd "jones" for more power. The '02 Z06 is looking mighty tempting.

I would go with a C5 Corvette but not a Z06...I would get the coupe. I find the lines are just not as sleek as a coupe and you dont have the removable roof. Also, the price difference between a Z06 and a coupe is significant. This means you can buy that STS turbo kit and make the same or more power than the Z06. As far as the interior goes...its not perfect but it works. I found it to very comfortable and there is more cargo room than to be expected. And you just cant beat the sound. My GOD...you get some BB bullets on that thing and its insane.

LS1 FD all the way.
The z06 is hot but its just a vette, too common everywhere. Going with the LS1 FD is like having a vette but a better body, the FD body.
Id go with that for sure.

I say go with the Z06. My dad has an '03 and he loves it. I really like it too, reminds me of my FD but quieter, torquier, and slightly bigger. Its a really nice car to drive, you would love it compared to the FD for daily driving. It feels like a mercedes compared to my FD.

To all who claim Vettes are so common, I would agree that C5s in general are very common; however, I live in a VERY densely populated area and see maybe one Z06 a day on my 50 mile round-trip commute.
I sold my Z06 to my dad, so I still drive the car occasionally to clean the carbon out...hehe.
Oh, and ricers almost never challenge me. They know better.

Get an Accord with NSX badging. Nobody will be able to tell the difference.
Man, I wish Honda would've made more attempts to disassociate the taillights from their grocery getters of the same era. I can respect the rest of the car though.

If it is fast he ultimately wants, then yes...The g35 is not the way to go.

How bout an older vette like a 63 to 67 (my personal favorite) vette??
Timeless design, a true classic - just like the FD.
Great project car with plenty of parts available for upgrades.
327 c.i. with@350 hp or a 427 c.i. with 425 horses or more - hot dam!!
Good luck on your next car no matter what you decide.
